Speech-Recognition

Yeah, but Microsoft does not want discussion of Windows 7 on
UseNet, otherwise it would begin a discussion group here.

Speech recognition has been around a lot longer than Microsoft has
included it in Windows. Dragon NaturallySpeaking has been a viable
speech recognition program for many years before Vista. And, as
usual, the promise/hype of MicrosoftWare far exceeds the actual
usefulness. Apparently, many people are able to use Windows Speech
Recognition for dictation in Microsoft Word, but in practice you
might find it impossible to use system-wide. And for sure, it
pales in comparison to NaturallySpeaking and Dragonfly for speech
recognition and voice activated command and control of a PC.

With Windows 3.1, Microsoft published "Macro Recorder", a
systemwide macro recorder. Microsoft actually touted it as a
utility to help make using Windows easier. Unfortunately, Macro
Recorder went out the back door at Microsoft. For many years,
there was no macro recorder or speech recognition included with
Windows. I would be surprised if you can find anyone who is using
the current version of Windows Speech Recognition with its macro
utility, at least not SYSTEMWIDE like I use NaturallySpeaking and
Dragonfly for common actions AND moving data between windows.

There are very few speech recognition users and extremely few that
use speech the way it is destined to be used for command and
control of a PC.

Speech recognition with command and control of my PC is one reason
that Linux has absolutely no appeal to me, you cannot get here
from Linux.

I am just trying to enlighten you, Stonehead.
I don't care,

I know.
OK, it was labeled whatever.

It was labeled off-topic, Stonehead.

Besides, it's not like we have too much traffic here lately.

I wonder where the new posters came from. Seems like there are
more than usual lately.
Quite interesting, with no apparent reason you have changed my
nick into something supposely to be funny,

Well then, the reason is apparent. I do that for another reason,
to help keep track of posters, especially nym-shifting trolls. It
might be easier than having to record all of their IDs with every
reply. On UseNet, you can call yourself whatever you want, and I
can call you whatever I want. The only difference is that my name
for you will remain the same. If there were some consensus name
for each poster, I might use that, but there isn't.
Again, what's your problem? I'm just one bit-more-powerful
PC-user

Who cannot properly format a UseNet post.
Here you probably have no clue what you are talking about.

Bill Gates regularly appears before our United States Congress
pushing for greater access to H1B visa workers.
I do, 'cause I'm forinational (born and raised in Croatia) who
did my H1B term in USA, almost 10y in total. Microsoft is much
sought-after employer in my field of computer professionals
(ECE), much more sought-after than, say, Sun Microsystems, who
gained quite negative attitude by employing more than 80% of its
work force from India, not overseas, but bluntly on the soil of
USA. FYI, it is not alleged Microsoft's, or Sun's or whatever's,
ability to easily control H1B visa, it's USA goverment who
actually made possible to corp's to employ "cheap, well educated
and obeying" workers from around the world, especially from
India and Eastern Europe. Been there, done that. So, blame is
not upon corporations in general (who just play it loud), but to
USA policy towards imported workers (who just hides behind
corps).

And now that our unemployment rate has gone up, some of our
politicians are paying the price. At the same time, it seems that
many people still do not get it.
What, exactly, sucks?

Apparently, besides your problem with introductions, you have a
problem quoting material, Stonehead, otherwise the answer to your
question would be right there.

Apparently, besides your problem with introductions,
I see. My introduction! I might be a rookie (and again, maybe not) but
enlighten me again, how I am suppose to introduce myself? I have no
intention to publish my live email tied to my nick, just as you did not
either, i.e. (e-mail address removed) is not an email because it's apparently
non-accessable. Therefore I do not consider "John Doe" as real name neither,
just 2-work nick with total of 7 letters, apparently non-random ones. So,
besides a nick, and non-publishable real name, a real address even less than
that, not to mention a phone-number, what a real introduction is suppose to
consist of? Should I publish my SSN? My country of origin, perhaps? You
cannot even checkout my IP 'cause I am posting via proxy server called
eternal-september, easily readable via header. How I'm suppose to convince
anyone that any of publish information is non-fictitious? Having all that in
mind, correct me If I'm wrong, any fictitious information as introduction
might look worst than lack of introduction at all. And again, I keep the
right to be wrong, so please forgive me, anyone, for my non-existant bonton
and a lack of introduction. Just tell me how to do it, and I'll do it (to

Why is it a subject to wonder? Is this group something like a coutry-club,

mandatory to have a proper introduction, like a socialite-debitant to be
introduced into a higher ring of society by arbitrant, some older member of
that ring. If so, than this group is suppose to be moderated. But it isn't,

It's world-wide problem, uinfortunately. But, who started that neck-breaking
fall? From where I'm now (Croatia), the first name which came to my mind is
Lehman Brothers, oops, it's Enron, therefore, as Michael Douglas in "Wall

Yet, oddly enough, I do have come to love USA, as it's my own, simply by
chance to spend my best years in it.

At the top of every message, there is suppose to be a list of
authors who participate in that message. You can see it at the top
of almost every other message. You are using Outlook Express, I
think it can properly introduce authors, there must be a switch
somewhere. You can ask in a Windows group or an Outlook Express
group.
Why is that? Maybe some local dudes, a resident hot-shots, made
sure of that.

It is happening all over UseNet. Conceivably, it could be an
effort of governments and the one-way media. Not long ago, some
New York politician accused UseNet of spreading child pornography.
Or it might have to do with the bad global economy. Also,
apparently Microsoft stopped including a newsreader in Windows
Vista/7/higher. No doubt that would have some negative effect.
Many Internet Service Providers have stopped providing a news
server.

However, just because there is less traffic does not mean there is
less information. Being difficult to get here on UseNet provides a
higher percentage of technically inclined users. Now if we could
only get rid of Google Groups...
Why is it a subject to wonder? Is this group something like a
coutry-club, with membership by reference?

Nope, assuming that observation is correct, I am just curious.
It's unavoidable simply by nature of usenet, where anybody can
assume any nickname, and hide it's real personality behind it.

Like for serious trolling, or to avoid responsibility for what
they have said in the past, or if they are asking for help and
have a bad reputation, or to help prevent others from kill filing
them.
Just put yourself into his shoes. Where would you find fresh
blood? In USA I don't think so, at least not for a current
"state-of-the-wage" (1 USA engineer == 4 Mexican engineers == 40
Chinese ones, measured by 2007 EE wages, correct me for current
2010 wages). I must emphasise that I do not advocate Bill Gates,
just merely stating current facts.

Ford Motor Company paid its own workers high wages partly so that
they could afford to buy Ford cars. Microsoft being gung-ho for
H1B visa workers is just anti-American. Microsoft and other big
companies are gung-ho for H1B visa workers because those workers
are cheap, and easy to control. Microsoft, at least Bill Gates,
throws millions to women and minorities, instead of giving based
on competition and achievement. Then, Microsoft's pet H1B visa
workers send the money home, so it does nothing for our economy.
Most of the people in the H1B visa worker's country do not even
pay for Microsoft products, so it does not even help our economy
in that way either. Almost all of Microsoft's money comes from the
United States where intellectual property law is enforceable.
Microsoft is the New World Order tax on America. Microsoft is like
the (filthy rich) Robin Hood of big business, it takes money from
United States businesses and professional users, and gives some of
that money (and lots of software) to the rest of the world.

And then Bill Gates says "technology will get us out of this
recession". Yeah, right. Currently, technology is being used for a
lot of things many people do not like. If things get bad enough,
the masses might decide to get us out of technology.
