Like I wrote in reply to Ceg: "One thing is clear: This isn't reader-
specific"... I saw your post over a alt.free.newsservers; let's hope the
server-owner notices the problems we have... and hopefully will be able
to solve the problems.

let's hope :-)
It's not a big problem, I have "news.stben.net" and "news.x-privat.org"
as well :-)

Question: Is there a delay between the receiving of the confirmation
eMail (with password), the ability to log on to the web interface and the
actual use of the server?

I have successfuly registered, am able to access the registered user
area... but get a "502 Entry not found" when trying to update the
groupslist...

Same here, just 502. If I needed it right now, I would ask support
Wazzup. Kinda waiting for a clue to appear in the NGs or forums
before bugging support.

Hi Ceg,

Sounds familiar... any specific error (502 for instance? That's the one
at least two others in this thread get!). The problem has been posted by
Alain Beguin and myself in the free.newsservers NG; let's hope the
server-owner is watching the thread!

At least one thing is clear: It isn't reader-specific ;-)

I'm using OE on WinXPHSP2. I can get the general ng's that are received
when not using a logon. Since plugging my user id and password into the
properties and clicking to reset the list of groups I keep getting flashed
by the logon window asking for my user id and password.

Hi Ceg,

It's not your reader, read the brief exchange of information between
Alain Beguin and me, and BoB's post... there are too many different
readers; this must be something on the server!

I wonder if those who could use the server, still can

the server is a php script i've tried running here on several different web
servers and had difficulties with all combinations

I tried Xnews (my regular
reader), XanaNews and 40tude... they all had problems with the server at
motzarella.org.

I tried Agent and Hamster. Same result.
I did what Zo suggested and posted the problem over at
alt.free.newsservers... hopefully they can give a clue!
Thanks for confirming the problem!

I emailed them, but don't appear to have got a reply.

Regards, John.

Try .de instead of .org :-)

I found this in the "motzarella.newusers" group

YES, it works! Thank you very much, Alain!!!

I don't think I tried to pull from the server until the day after recieving
the password, so I don't know if there was a delay or not.
I see that this thread has moved on quite a bit in 24 hours, and that Alain
has found a solution that works for you, nice work.
If anyone else still can't get motzarella to work, after changing .org to
..de, I will post my username and password so that they can test their
setup.

Hi BamBam,

I read from your reply that you still have problems in getting motzarella
to work...

I connect to www.motzarella.de on the default port (119), provide the
chosen user name and the password, and it works like a charm (as you can
see in the header)

Hello, In_Parentheses!

Oddly enough, though XNews gave me an error message, using Yanoff (the
program I used to post this message) I was able to post to alt.test
using Motzarella. I subscribed to a new group and designated
Moztarella as the server. I didn't get an error message, but neither
did the program grab any mesages from the group.

Regards, Raincoater

Hi Raincoater!

Jay is the name... In_Parentheses is just my nym.

Did you try the dotDE suffix instead of dotORG? It works perfectly, as
Alain described. If XNews reported the "502, Entry not found" error on
you, the change of the domain suffix is the solution (I use XNews too,
and with success as you can see in the header!).

Hi Jay, I'm not having any trouble with motzarella. My connection worked
first time with the .org server. I was really only offering my working
username and password to anyone for testing purposes.
I currently use Hamster as a local news server on my computer. I pull
messages from 10 free news servers, and my 1 ISP news server. I started
using Hamster when I was still on dialup and couldn't stay connected long
enough to feed my usenet addiction, using Xnews didn't help as it's really
only an online newsreader, but in combination with Hamster it is the
perfect combination IMO.
I highly recommend Hamster to anyone trying to build themselves a reliable
news feed. I only use Hamster in it's simplest form, to pull from and post
to, text newsgroups.

Hello Jay

If you read the NG "motzarella.newusers" you will see this (server related
problem) has now been fixed and .org will now work without the 502 errors.

They also point out that yes you can use the .de extension but this is
their old server and is being being phased out - .org is the preferred
server to use.
