OT AIOE Free News Server Alternative

Lately, the free news server AIOE has been experiencing a lot of
trouble and has been down for the last few days. If anyone else is now
looking for an alternate, you may want to give this one a try. It
allows read and posting, and carrys a large number of newsgroups.

http://news.motzarella.org/en/index.php (news.motzarella.org)

Requires registration with a valid email address so that a password can
be forwarded to you. The registration process only takes a minute or
so.

The server is fast and so far has been very reliable.

Sometimes that happens unless you use your ISPs provided email address.
They don't take email addresses like hotmail or gemail.

I used my Hotmail address with no problems.

John, maybe you entered it wrong?????. I used my Hotmail account with
no problems, the process took about 10-15 seconds. According to the
Managers of this server, if their email reply bounces, the sender's
email address if removed immediately. If you have access to
"alt.free.newsservers" newsgroup you may get more useful help there.

Thanks, but the email address shouldn't have bounced. I used a
different address however and that worked. I got the confirmation
fine. :-)

Now I get ;

"Server motzarella rejected your username and password [ entry not
found ]

Server motzarella (news.motzarella.org]" :-(

i finally got registered, but the server still doesn't authorize me
 
It worked perfectly for me first time. So far I'm impressed.

Question: Is there a delay between the receiving of the confirmation
eMail (with password), the ability to log on to the web interface and the
actual use of the server?

I have successfuly registered, am able to access the registered user
area... but get a "502 Entry not found" when trying to update the
groupslist...

I had no such problems registering or getting the newsgroups listing
and like BamBam, I'm quite impressed with it so far. Below is quoted
text from a poster in the alt.free.newsservers group

"How long does it take for them to wake up?
I registered hours ago, no reply.

No need to wake me up, I never sleep
The registration process at news.motzarella.org is fully automated. As
soon as you see the Welcome page in the web application a mail which
your account data is sent to the email address you entered. If there
is any delay after that, it is most likely due to some problem with
your email provider. If the email bounces, your account is removed
automatically.

The poster, who appears to be the owner of Motzarella.org replied to
this question under the name "Ray Banana". So you may want to go to
the alt.free.newsserver group and post you question to him.

Hi Zo,

Registration went fine the first time, no problems at all. I already have
logged onto the registered users area on www.motzarella.org. The only
thing that won't work is... I can't get any newsgroup lists from that
server... I use XNews, BTW.

Same here; error 502 with newsreader Thunderbird and MesNews...
Access to the reg users area ok too.

Hi Alan,

This may sound cynical, but it is n=in no way intended to be, but I'm
glad I'm not the only one experiencing this problem; and you have a
different reader... (not that it matters, I tried Xnews (my regular
reader), XanaNews and 40tude... they all had problems with the server at
motzarella.org.

I did what Zo suggested and posted the problem over at
alt.free.newsservers... hopefully they can give a clue!

I got the email...the server doesn't authorize when I attempt to download
the group list.

Hi Ceg,

Sounds familiar... any specific error (502 for instance? That's the one
at least two others in this thread get!). The problem has been posted by
Alain Beguin and myself in the free.newsservers NG; let's hope the
server-owner is watching the thread!

At least one thing is clear: It isn't reader-specific ;-)

Hi Alain,

Like I wrote in reply to Ceg: "One thing is clear: This isn't reader-
specific"... I saw your post over a alt.free.newsservers; let's hope the
server-owner notices the problems we have... and hopefully will be able
to solve the problems.
