Hi again Steve,

You're gonna love this...

I just sat down at the machine we have been discussing,
clicked on an MPEG link, and have the problem again!!!

I can assure you that I have changed nothing at all. It was
working on Friday, and is broken (again) now.

This is no tragedy, but it is a nuisance, and it is
certainly odd.

As before, I appreciate all your kind help,

Fudge ....

Did you try repeating the process of "checking" the item again?

(in "Tools | File Types of WMP, and find that MPEG is NOT checked.")

Hi Steve,

Yes, indeed, that was the first thing I tried, but no luck.
Right now, whether checked or un-checked, the dialog opens
every time.

All the best, and thanks for any further ideas,

Have you been to Windows Update to get updates and the last version of
Media Player?

PS is it possible you have a failing hard drive that is corrupting your
settings?

Hi Steve,

Of course, anything is possible, but...

I am having no trouble whatever with anything on the system
other than this WMP thing...

Thanks,
