Hi Jose and Daave,

The Netbook is back and working. Yea!!!! I have uninstalled the Norton
that it came with and installed the Corporate Norton that my company
requires. So far so good.

So, Jose, you ask: What will you do the next time?! Well, poop! Guess
it's time for the Recovery Disc, eh? :)

Thank you Daave for the links to the Guide :) and for the external DVD
burner. And even pointing me to the right page!

And thus begins the start of the plan for the next time. But, oh, I had one
more thought. Maybe there is a cable which would allow data to be
transferred from my tower to Netbook and allow the Netbook the use of the
DVD burner in the tower. sigh. See how I get myself in trouble.

I thank each and every one of you who took the time to write and give me
advice. Your assistance is GREATLY appreciated!

Hi Jose,

The Netbook is already packaged for shipment so I am not able to get the
C:/boot.ini information. Sorry!

I do think that XP is there because it comes up in SAFE mode. Earlier I
was
able to access C with DOS commands so there is just some little corruption
of that file apparently.

Well, poop.

Of course XP is there and you have no cable problems or anything that
needs taking apart since you can boot okay in Safe Mode.

You may want to formulate a plan and test it for someday if your
system will not boot properly again in the future - what will you
do?. The laptop people surely will have a method on their WWW site.
The idea of booting XP from "something" like a USB device, can't be a
new concept to them or people in their user forum. Somebody has
figured it out already...

Good luck!

YW, Kathy. :-)

Actually, Acronis would be even better than the Recovery Disc since you
can customize your installation as you want it (including all the
programs you use, even the Corporate Norton one!). That being said, it's
always handy to have the Toshiba Recovery Disc as another fallback.

How about this nifty item:

I believe your netbook has a 160GB SATA hard drive. You should be able
to attach it to your tower with the above device to do what you need to
do. Strictly speaking, this suggestion would not allow the *Netbook* per
se to have "the use of the DVD burner in the tower," but it would allow
you to use the tower's DVD burner (or the Tower's malware scanning
programs for that matter or the ability to copy data, etc.) on the
Netbook's *hard drive*. Then again, if you have an external DVD burner,
you should already be covered with regard to booting off a DVD, correct?

Glad to help. :-)
