Have you tried that clipboard extender call CLCL that they
have been talking about? I tried it and indeed like it fine.

Finding it will do nested folders which are accessible from a right
click on the tray icon puts it into serious 'keeper' league for me.

I tried several clipboard extenders recently and stopped when I found
CLCL.

I simply cannot imagine a better app for the job.

The only snag is that there is no documentation so you have to
experiment for a while to find how to use it to greatest efficiency

Since it is such a small file size and no install, i assume I can move
it between puters on a floppy; I will check this soon.

I indeed like it really much. I love that it is full
keyboarding support. I am keeping it alhtough I am not
running it all the time in the backgroud because I don't use
cut and paste to jot note that much. But I think it is the
best note joting and clipper out there. The author is
Japanese, so that might be perhaps why there is not much
documentation. Perhaps one day...

I've run it all the time since I found it. There are loads of usenet
posts that can be answered with an URL so I have made an URL folder;
there are loads of usenet posts that can be answered with a basic
boilerplate response so i will slowly build up a boilerplate folder.
CLCL can do this; running it in the background uses so little
resources it is daft not to, unless one gets bored with deleting the
rubbish regularly.

It is so nice to find an app that one can wholeheartedly enthuse
about. :-)

I'm still trying hard to find a flaw/bug...

This remind me something I installed yesterday and found that
it is pretty neat. I downloaded Slickrun yesterday and its
installer found that I don't have a component (about 800kb) it
needs. Then it told me and proceed to start downloading it
and install the whole thing just fine afterwards. Of course I
am not saying that is should automatically do so if that
component is like a large download, but it sure is an option
to do that if the component is not that big.

Sounds like a Windows programmer taking a page from Linux apt-get and
urpmi.

What I will probably end up doing is write my own XML parser so I can
include only the small part that I need. The only reason I added the MSXML
component was I needed some practice using it just to get familiar..

That seems to be my problem sometimes, I use my applications to practice
things..

No more dev-talk and onto the freeware discussions again<g>

Yes, I really like this one, too. :)

Open Task Manager, and note how much memory clcl.exe is consuming. Hit
the Print Screen key 5 times in succession. Again look at the memory
stats for clcl.exe.

Memory management is definitely not CLCL's forte, especially when it
comes to bitmaps. Of course, you can always filter out the BITMAP format
from being captured, but it would be nice if this would be fixed.

Also, if you have a high number set in the 'Maximum number of items'
option (under the History tab), and you have lots of clips in History,
CLCL tends to perform quite sluggishly.

Also, I'm sorely missing a 'Find' feature, and the ability to delete
multiple clips (but not all) at once.

Nevertheless, IMO, CLCL is still one of the best clipboard managers out
there, and its free - so I probably shouldn't be complaining so much ;) .

Mario

I recall someone else recently mentioning the memory consumption, esp
for bitmaps. This does not bother me at all since I have no need for
bmp's in the clipboard.

I don't understand the mechanics of the clipboard at all, and
appreciate an app that will extend it... I want decent text
functionality and will complain only when CLCL falls over in this
department.

I'm waiting to see this. I've set 500 as max items, but see no point
in getting that high just to test. I delete unwanted stuff regularly.

I'm not. Yet. I'm still pleased to discover nested folders which, atm,
satisfies my need for ease of find.

Er, hold the ctrl key while selecting?

My current feeling is that I like it so much that if I start to notice
its limitations, i will simply adapt to them.

Nested folders would generally be useful for finding and retrieving
clips from your boilerplate collections. You know where they are because
you organized them, and put them there. But its not so easy to find
clips from History, if you're storing a lot of clips, and looking for a
specific clip that you know is present, but forgot to "pull out" into
one of your Template folders.
Er, hold the ctrl key while selecting?

Ctrl + Select, and Shift + Select don't work in the Viewer. You can
either delete a single clip (Right click on the clip, and select
Delete), or all clips ('Clear History' plugin).

This is one of the best desktop note applications around. What would it
hurt to just check out Note-It's home page (link below) and see the
screenshots.

As always Veign strives to provide free, useful applications and always
interested in hearing some suggestions for future application
applications...

Looks neat.

Veign,
Could you review my Babya Photo Workshop for my website?

I share your enthuisiasm. However, CLCL is not perfect, as Mario
pointed out, but it serves my needs for a clipboard extender quite
well. I have tried about every freeware alternative available but no
similar programme has fewer shortcomings than CLCL, although I like
Autoclip Express (also for other reasons, spell check!), sadly not
freeware anymore.

CLCL has a feature which I have not seen mentioned in the present
discussion: you can make menus in it, e.g. for launching programmes. I
have encyclopedias and dictionaries under left_alt-e (alt-d is
reserved for something else) and other frequently used software under
left_alt-s. I wish it had a help file or manual though, as it takes a
while to figure out all the undocumented features.

Then keep posting your findings, or, even better, write them all in a little
text file and share it with us :-)
(I'm still a bit confused with all the CLCL features)

I can see how to have an app launch by double clicking it in the
viewer pane. I can't see how to launch it with a hot key, or by
clicking on the right click tray menu...

A help file would be moderately useful. :-)

The good news is that CLCL supports a plugin architecture. So, a Spell
Check plugin tool which launches an external spell checker shouldn't be
too difficult to implement. Maybe you could mail the author of the
program with such a request.

Yes, this is a nifty feature ! Very unorthodox for a program of this
type to provide, but very useful, nonetheless.

You can actually use CLCL as a full - blown application launcher. Hit a
hotkey, and bring up a list of programs neatly organized into their own
categories, nested upto any level. Very cool !

Both work here.

Oops, my bad. They work in the right pane, when you select a root folder
(History, Templates etc.) in the left pane. I was previously trying to
Ctrl + Click on the clips in the left pane with the root folder expanded.

Yes!

After Frank's post, and now yours, I have finally started finding this
out.
This is really excellent; many thx.

You website has no screenshots, downloads that don't work, and all seems
very strange. Feel free to post a link to some screenshots.
