I'll ask him later today.
I know he was stationed in England somewhere and before that in Africa.

The .exe file that opens does not permit right click,
copy and paste or print. Are you saying this does not work and you would
still somehow be able to copy it?

I hate to remind you of this, but I *did* say that "computers are *better*
at copying than any other technology invented by man." You will note that I
didn't say "browsers," or "newsreaders." An E-Book is a piece of software
that is read by a computer. I run into this same issue on the programming
forums. People are always asking "how can I prevent people from copying or
decompiling my executable code?" Now, we're not talking about text in that
case. We're talking about binary code. And guess what? If a computer can
read it (which it certainly must in order to run it), a human can use
software to read it. The software may not be popular; it may even be
illegal. But there's plenty of it out there. There are even hacker sites
where hackers share their software with each other.

Okay now, follow me for a bit. Let's say that just *one* person (out of the
7 billion people in the world) copies your book. What's to prevent that
person from distributing copies of the copy? And then, what will prevent the
others that get the copy from distributing copies of *their* copies?
Remember, we're not talking about a copy machine, where the quality of the
copy decreases with each successive re-copy. We're talking about computers,
which copy *perfectly.*

I'm sure you've heard the term "virus" used with regards to malicious
software. A virus in software works exactly in the same manner as a virus in
a human being. It makes copies of itself, and distributes them via various
covert and increasingly clever ways. Now, when a human being gets a virus,
it generally spreads by contact in one form or another with another human
being. The Internet connects millions of computers. So, once a copy of your
book gets into the network, it is *highly* likely to spread, like a virus,
unless it is so bad that nobody wants to read it. In that case, you have
nothing to worry about. ;-)

As I said, you're only option is to copyright your material, and as Rob
pointed out, getting satisfaction from the copyright is going to be like
pulling teeth. But at least it is possible!
