and all thi s after I cleand out a H D just for vista an d had to burn
the dam dvd 4 times before it would work now I cant get a key to try
it out#@!@#

ANd I have recive d no e-mails from ms witha key in it!

Yet another BLANK UP from Microsoft when will we learn?

Screw Microsoft I am going to install linux mandrake V10.1 on that HD I
cleaned out...I dont have time to play there games I have wasted enough
time all ready...

Wish I had $$ for a MAC then I could trash MS once and for all!!!!!

Let me see.
You went to the Microsoft site, signed up to download the beta.
Microsoft issued you a key, yet you chose NOT to write it down???
Microsoft should have I believe also sent you an E-Mail with the key shown
in the E-Mail. What did you do with that E-Mail???
Then you went back to the Microsoft site, went through the same process, but
again you chose NOT to write the key down.
You DID however remember to print the screen.
However it sounds like before you checked your rintout (and realized it
didn't print the number in the box, you navigated away from that screen.
Ooops.

Now, after the multiple mistakes you made, you decide that it's all
Microsoft's fault????

Why don't you just hurry up and order the Beta on DVD? It usually arives
with 7-10 days, and not only will it come with a key that's already printed
on a lable, but by ordering the Beta-2 on DVD, you would get the RC1 version
automatically shipped to you at no additional cost when it's released.

Same thing when I printed mine out. Fortunately I noticed that it didn't
print the Product Key, and I wrote it down by hand on the printout.

Do you still have the option of ordering the CD?

I didn't get the e-mail either. Later I heard that the e-mails got caught
in Verizon's spam filter. By any chance is your e-mail provider Verizon?

First I down loaded it the first time and went off 2 work..Some of us e
have to work on like bill gates....and Guess what a automatic update from
xp was installed and rebooted my PC...so I did not have the key.

I went and got it a 2nd time printed it out but yes I did not look at it
for 3 days as I just did not have time ....

And when I did have time I see that for some reasion every thing but
they key was printed???

ANd I hav e recive d no E-mail from microsoft I looked in my junk e-mail
folder but nothing!

And I see no reasion to pay Billy boy 1 more BLANKING CENT!

so windows vista can go "Asta la Vista"

Have fun crashing your systems I have wasted to much time all ready on
windowz
I am going to convert to eaither linux or a Mac ..if i can scrape up the
$$$ for on e that is...

LOL - this is really funny. I have the unfortunate recurring experience of
working with someone who has a Mac. Yep, he has Microsoft Word for Mac, and
every time the rest of us e-mail him a script and he runs it through his
Crapple, the script comes back all screwed up.

So, get your Mac - they're really nice toys.

Now, if you can't write down a product key, forget Linux. Even Suse Linux
10, which is billed as one of the easiest-to-use desktop distros, is full of
command line installation requirements. I needed forum assistance just to
get the correct command line syntax to load the Linux driver for my nVidia
video card.

I played around with Linux for about 6 months. Vista is on the partition
where it used to be. IMO, Vista is going to be great. Aero Glass is
awesome. Then again, you have to have a video card that supports Aero
Glass. You better write that down.

Ok I admint I am stressed out I have had a bad week....

I did take your advice and ordered the dvd but only becaus e u sai d they
will send me the RC1 .....

2nd I signed on with a 2nd e-mail to get the key

3rd yet again it wil not print the txt every thing but the cd key but I
copied and pasted it to a txt file.

but no luck ..vista tells me that files need to boot system can not be
found it s for my Harddrive controller...and asked me if I still want to
install I told it no.

So Quest can I use xp drivers?

Q2 I am installing to the D:\ drive as not to mess up my xp setup..I asume
it will set up a multi boot so I can get in to xp or vista?

If your hard drive(s) are SATA then you have to load the drivers when
installing. Search through the forum for how to's on that.

Vista will set up a rudimentary boot manager that will give you a dual-boot
scenario.

Correct, if you manage to get it installed, it will dual-boot XP & Vista.
At least on my computer, Vista is set as the default. Always install Vista
after XP.

Don't be so quick to criticize the Mac. I'm using both OS/X and XP Pro on a
MacBook Pro and it is impressive stuff.

What country are you from?

Microsoft Office debuted on Mac. It came to the PC second. While that is
just a triva question now some 15 years later, it is not fair to say
business apps are crapola. This "my computer is better than your computer"
stuff is immature.

Well at least you have a working Product Key. You need to supply a hard
drive controller driver using the Load Drivers button on the setup screen.
You need to find the software for your computer and find the driver that
came with it (or with the motherboard if you put the system together
yourself).

The last Windows installed will be the default (but can be changed) because
Setup makes it the default so that the reboots during installation will boot
the right system and installation can continue. You can set a new default
with VistaBootPro and use more descriptive names than "Windows".

I know you are but what am I?

Baa Haa Haa!

It's painfully obvious their attention to detail is a bit lacking. They
don't take the time to read much of anything... instructions or printouts.
And then they threaten with going to Linux?! *snicker* Oh, I can just
imagine how well THAT would go down. *wicked laugh*

Hi, Colin. A little more Office trivia.

Microsoft Excel first came out on the Mac in 1985, followed by Windows
versions in 1987, as you stated. However, Microsoft Word first was
introduced for MS-DOS in 1983, followed by the Mac in 1985. I remember
using the MS-DOS version of Word. It had a funky UI and was highly
unsuccessful against WordPerfect at the time.

So, in terms of Office applications, MS-DOS was first. :-)

The first real "bundle" of Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) called
"Microsoft Office" was indeed released for the Mac in 1990, followed by
Windows in 1992.
