Hey all.....Rogers has decided (in its infinite stupidity) to cancel Usenet
access, stating that it is passe and not many people use it. Idiots!!
I have kvetched a few times, but fully expect I will be accessing these 2
groups via Google tomorrow.
Any suggestions for a good news service that is inexpensive or free?? They
all seem to be at least $10/month and Rogers won't deduct that, of course.
Kurt....has Sympatico made any rumbles about doing the same thing? I may
just change over, but that is my least favourite solution. Ted Rogers is
such a jerk. I may just switch my cellphones over to Bell as well. Can't
do much about the TV cable service....but for $50/month, I expect to be able
to get news groups.
Thanks....Heather
Hi Heather,
Here is a post I made to ott.forsale.computing a couple of weeks ago
on this topic. It may be helpful.

Subject: Re: Rogers discontinued service
I recently signed up for a block of usenet access access with
http://usenet-news.net and it's outstanding. Cost me $6.25 ($5 USD)
for a 10GB block, which does not expire until used. I've been using it
to read/post in 4 newsgroups daily since 7-Nov-05 and have used 0.01GB
so far so that $6.25 should last me years! And speed and access have
been excellent. So, if you don't download binaries or videos, this is
as cheap as dirt. For others, their rates look pretty cheap, but I
have no idea how they compare with other providers.
BTW, if you are going to switch providers, I can highly recommend
Teksavvy. For $32.05/month including taxes, I get 3 mbps but no usenet
news, hence the above.
