I have a similar question. Does anyone know the last "free for non-business
use" version of WS-FTP LE?
(I am using version v5.08 which is free for non-business use. But the
version listed on their website is much more restrictive).

Same here: 5.08 2000.02.23

I've used this version since it came out. I have it on a CD
"somewhere." I'll try to find it and put it online if this is allowed
by IpSwitch.

This version has been rock solid from 98SE - XP and more firewalls
than I can count. Even if it is not the last free version for home use
I think it is fantastic!

Looks like the latest version *is* 1.00.010 (6/3/97) (not v 1.00.10).

That's easy to find - I myself now have 5 copies of that version, a
couple of other versions and a long list of DL locations. . . ;)

Susan,

Can you list one or two DL locations for v 1.00.010?

Fwiw I think there are better or at least equally good alternatives to
be found. The last free for non-commercial use WS_FTP LE version is
one such candidate IMHO.

Just trying to ensure we don't lose any freeware *alternatives* if an
app can still be downloaded from somewhere. . .
And there are other options worth exploring. For example as an
alternative to a stand-alone FTP clients: File Managers with FTP
support (ftp clients integrated, some also w/server). Using a file
manager as ftp client my self, shareware though (TCMD). Can't say how
good any of the following are as FTP clients, but anyway - here they
are:

DualXplorer <http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/authors/a0004178.htm>
Fileant <http://fileant.com/>
JExplorer <http://home.megapass.co.kr/~woosjung/#Downloads>
Pablo Commander <http://www.pablovandermeer.nl/> (recently updated)
TriDComm <http://tridcomm.com/>.

Did I forget any?

Other apps with FTP might get to be a long list. :) IIRC several
freeware backup and directory sync programs also have FTP capability.

The download for FTP Explorer from the author's site *is* v 1.00.010:

http://www.ftpx.com/downloads/ftpx.zip
or
ftp://ftp.ftpx.com/pub/ftpx/ftpx.zip

and the readme says: FTP Explorer is FREE for home or educational use.

a quick FTP search for ftpx.zip gave me these additional DL locations

Nice site!

About the only thing LE doesn't do is ftp from one site directly to
another. That's not something that is required very often anyway.

Otherwise, that is a very solid program!

Thanks. I've never before needed to ftp between two remote servers so
I've never looked for that feature. Now though I could use such a client.
Do you know of one that is capable of that? Out of all of the freeware
ftp clients I've tried, I don't remember any having that capability. But
as I say, I've never looked for that feature before.

I believe server to server is called FXP. . .

I understood (and agree with the idea), but I guess also sensed some
frustration - thus the above comment :)

Heh, well..I have not tried any of those, at least not as FTP client.
I guess the question (not to you but in general) is what does their
fpt interfaces look like? I suggested the file managers as an option
worth exploring namely for their interface. As said I have not tried
any of the freeware ones I listed - I mean not as FTP clients, but I
imagine they are easy to use as such. Even more so I guess if you use
the file manager as file manager as well :)

All the best,

It's an oldie but a goody, and it took a little searching to find.

Thanks a new one for me.

By the way, this page also has a link to download WS_FTP LE Version 5.08
which I understand is the last free version for non commercial use. I use
WS-FTP LE almost every day. It works great.
