Thank you all for the tremendous response. I tried BigJim's idea. I
did manage to destroy the flap at one end, but the middle flap was
fine, and it worked, thanks to the great suggestions.
That's easy to do. Best way is to slip a pin (I use a dental pick) to barely
slide between the plastic tab and the bent out jobber on the pin.
If it's a problem, you can usually use the pick to bend that part of the pin
back into the body of the pin.
If it ever comes up, for larger connectors like the 4pin Molex connectors for
hard drives, you have to either use the pick to bend the TWO sides of the pin
back into the body of the pin, or there are professional "pin pushers" with a little
handle and a thin metal tube specced for different size pins. You push the
barrel of the pusher in the front of the plug and it pushes the metal tabs back
into the body of the pin.
Out of curiosity, can you buy those little connectors retail? In the
Bay Area, for example, could I walk into a Fry's store and ask for
them? What are they called anyway?
They're called "little connectors".
Heh, not really.... maybe. I always got 'em out of bins marked with part numbers.
If Fry's doesn't have 'em, try a real electronics store like one that sells components
for TV/radio repair. That's where I get them, 50pin ribbon cables and connectors
to make SCSI CD cables, LEDs, micro switches, etc....
