New PC Spec.

Is crucial the one to go for then? The shop i used to work in said they would do me 512Mb for £45. Thats major on major. They think corsair is expensive. But def buy 2 dimm's rather than one you reckon mucks?

2 sticks better than one

stay away from generic ram

corsair & crucial are not expensive, relatively speaking, but they are quality

generic ram is a false economy

Whats wrong with generic ram mucks? Thought memory either worked or it didnt?

You don't know what your getting until ... oops to late.

None of the 'suppliers' of memory make the "chip" (the lump of silicon that they plonk on a bit of plastic) ... they buy in and make up. Big reason we tend to plug a particular brand of any other is they use the 'good stuff' and RMAing is easy. Even a good stick can go bad.

;)

So its really so that if something goes wrong its easy to RMA it? Its not that the RAM is any better? OR did i misunderstand that last email? :-)

email???

My last 'post' was ... buy "Branded" memory, Corsair/Crucial getting our vote ... if a stick does go wrong the manufacture/supplier, as with Crucial, will replace it very quicly and with no bother. :thumb:

:)

I was checking crucial and i have to admit, i do like the way you can enter your motherboard etc and they tell you exactly what will work. It takes away the doubt!! :-) If i buy memory from crucial, i take it that will be as good as from kingston or corsair? I mean, everyone probably has their favourites, but on a whole, are those three pretty good suppliers of quality memory? Does anyone use crucial a lot? Or has anyone had any particular problems with them?

Crucial are as good as Corsair and better than Kingston ... :thumb:

If people are not sure as to what memory to buy, then a quick few clicks at Crucial will put them straight.

:D

Groovy, cheers for the advice me ol' mucker. I will go with crucial me thinks.

Good to know. I like asus, so im looking forward to setting this one up. Prob buy it from overclockers some time soon. :-)

Are you kidding me? What do you mean it talks to you?!!! Instead of beeping, is it some creepy voice going....."beep". Or does it say something interesting? My imagination is running wild now with the things that an Asus board might say to me.

"Computer Power On Self Test Complete, Computer Loading Operating System"

Some Female American Voice....

Right, thats the clincher! Im getting one!!! :-)

Anyone know where they are still selling AMD XP2800's?
