I know the feeling. My home base since 1999 has been the virus
newsgroups. Things often get really rough and abusive there. While
I've never gone "storming out", I have in the past let fly with the
four letter words. Patience has never been one of my virtues. Then
I beat up on myself for allowing my frustrations to get the better of
me.

On this ng I skim, and only try a freeware sometimes that interests
me. It's nice to just be a "lurker" and rare participant ... and
completely ignore the ng politics and bickering.

The virus newsgroups have completely disintegrated over the past few
years. The "old guard" of regulars are mostly gone. The lack of
"enforced" discipline and structure, as it were, at least cuts out
most politics and bickering. As long as there are a small handful
of knowledgeable "lurking regulars" to offer good advice, a ng
is worthwhile, IMO.

Is the phrase "lurking regular" a contradiction in terms? Pick better
terminology if you think so, but I have in mind those wonderful people
who have no interest whatsoever in controlling what other people post,
or how they post, and who only post when they know they're going to be
helpful to those with less experience and knowledge.

It's easy for me to now do that on the virus newgroups since I only
have experience with Win 9X/ME. Most posters getting nailed with
malware now are XP users. I made up my mind to never respond again
to such users. And to spend very little time on newsgroups. Time to
"getta life" and do other things :)

As my friend Mike says, "you been reading my mail." I hear ya.

FWIW, I always enjoyed your go-rounds with Raid and Pax, though they
sometimes shed more heat than light.

Well, you've done more than most to earn a "nice" experience here.
You've given us some pretty good freeware.

I was never more than an occasional poster there, but now I rarely
even read the virus groups any more. ISTM too that the culture is
gone for the most part. Onerous as that culture could be, it held a
great group of knowledgeable people together.

It's springtime. Doesn't Peg have something for you to go out and
plant? ;)

Sure. And I didn't mean to be shouting -- Mitchell's page itself
has the link in all caps.

Not to worry, I just assumed that was the case.
They've decided on a new name for the product, but aren't announcing
it until they have secured the trademark. SeaMonkey will probably
still be the codename, but the new name will be on the released
versions.

I wonder if they're going to continue development on the existing
Composer module or if they'll go with Nvu. There is a difference.

What is this program?

Hi John
I have been using Nvu for some time and find that it sometimes refuses to
Publish. The problem is solved by 'going out' and 'coming back in'. The
same can happen when trying to validate.
Otherwise it's coming along nicely.

"A complete Web Authoring System for Linux Desktop users as
well as Microsoft Windows and Macintosh users to rival
programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver.

Nvu (pronounced N-view, for a "new view") makes managing a
web site a snap. Now anyone can create web pages and
manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge
of HTML."
