NEW NVIDIA DRIVERS.

As it turns out, my computer was defective. I exchanged for the same machine
today, and the difference is like night and day. I'm still using the default
96.86 driver, however, and as long as it's working, I'm not eager to try
anything later.

So, to the person who asked earlier what was so important about Aero... in
my case, the fact that Aero didn't work allowed me to determine that I had
defective hardware. Without Aero, I might've made that determination much
later... after it was too late to return/exchange the merchandise. :-)

Hopefully not off-thread - a) did anyone get where all the built-in Vista
games fonts have a fat day and went all wide when they installed nVidia
Forceware (100.65)? And if so, b) did they find that this beta fixed it?

....or is it because my mate installed Hamtersoft Bottomcleaning 6 Lite
(otherwise known as the Veoh Player) while I wasn't looking the other day and
it messed my fonts up...?

Veoh Player shouldn't touch the fonts on your system and I haven't
ever heard of this happening. If you find that VP really does do
this, please send email to me at (e-mail address removed) and to the
(e-mail address removed) alias immediately. We definitely don't want that
happening.

ooh :D

Wel, I uninstalled Veho and it didn't change anything - I'm really not sure
what's caused this yet - sorry to imply that it might only have been Veoh ;)
I'm still leaning to it being a Video Driver thing and have posted to
nVidia's QA peeps to see if anything comes back, along with some other
threads on here.

Thanks!
-Pete

Hey, don't apologize.

And if it *is* ever our stuff, please beat our doors down telling us!

Version 101.41 just released.

Important fixes a lot of people were getting:

# Brief corruption (flickering, boxes) on screen at Windows Vista
login, CTR-ALT-DEL (Task Manager), or other function that requires
Vista User Account Control
# Playback issues when playing TV/DVD/video in Media Center with Aero
enabled
# Outputting via TV-Out shows only a black and white display
# HDTV output does not keep HDTV resolution after restart
# Adjusting Video Color settings from the NVIDIA Control Panel are not
getting applied.
# Change Flat Panel Scaling page does not correctly work in the NVIDIA
Control Panel.
# Brightness, Contrast and Gamma values remain the same in Adjust
Desktop Color settings once closing and opening the NVIDIA Control
Panel.
# Corruption on DVI monitor while going to hibernation from standby
Just an FYI. In the 101.41 drivers 1280x960 is locked down to 60hz
for some unknown reason.

No doubt something that they will fix when the driver is released as a full
release and not a beta.

All these issues and more form the basis of my sticking with XP until Vista
or its successor has had time to mature. Remember XP has been around for
about 5 years.

Besides this, I use several Adobe/Adobe acquired products and Adobe is not
going to make them Vista compatible but they are going to make people pay
(through the nose) for the new versions which will probably be out later this
year. That makes the upgrade to Vista a kilodollar exercise for me and I
ain't falling for it.

CS2 works fine for me with Vista.

No nVidia drivers will support any GeForce GO card. Drivers for your laptop
need to come from your laptop manufacturer, nVidia doesn't release drivers
for laptop display adapters.
