Read this:
you have a high resolution, in that resolution office 2007 is better. I
would vote for a customizable ribbon,
that could change in many ways including MAGNIFICATION with vector quality.
Many people have widescreen laptops, that need vertical space.
These people used to customize office to get less toolbars, but cannot do
that any longer.
Other people use CRT or big monitors because they have eyesight problems.
And then there are blind people who use voice synthesis to "see" their
screen.
The toolbar presenting many icons may not seem to you confusing. However I
must urge you to open your mind,
and see that there are many people with tiered over loaded brains, and some
that have illnesses. There are
old people who use computers too. So in office they have substituted a
string of actions with, shall we say a big pallet of options shown before
you, so you must select a locating from icon shape from that pallet.
People with mild or severe autism will tell you that this is overwhelming to
them. Yes the PANIC and sweat when giving them too many choices at once.
There are people that don't spend 10 hours in front of the computer, but 16
or even 18 hours. But even at 5 hours, it depends on the amount
of information presented on the screen. This rhythm is increasing
dramatically with high speed internet and video.
There are many studies that show that the human brain is being overwhelmed
with information... by presenting too much at a time,
needing you to choose from a palette of shapes and choices (ribbon), is
utterly wrong. In other words normal people are showing signs of autism,
because the brain cannot absorb the information presented fast enough.
Sorry, it will not work as well for the groups I have described above.
Memory uses strings to associate actions. One thing then leads to
another.....
Anyway... you seem ignorant to all this because you have a big screen, and
you have been using
office with your computer skills and you think everyone is like you. However
you are very mistaken.
Your work probably consist of actions in a few applications, and some
occasional web surfing.
You are of an old generation of users. New users, don't use computers as you
do. YOU are becoming the minority!
I think you are the one who is narrow minded. You see that it works for you
and so it should work for everyone...
If you even could fathom the understanding from which I speak, you would put
your tail between your legs and run away yapping.
There is much more to say about this.. this is only a small portion of what
I could say about why the design is bad....

Old enough to probably be your mother-in-law, if some poor girl was so
unfortunate as to be stuck with someone as narrow-minded as you, not to
mention judgemental and pedantic.
Dual monitors on my desktop, 1600x1350. (At home) Single monitor at work,
same settings. I sit in front of a monitor at least 10 hours a day, doing
real work and not whining because someone whose software you will proabably
not use changed their interface. WAH WAH WAH!

After furious head scratching, progressive realization asked:

| How old are you? How many hours do you spend in front of the the

| | Sorry - don't agree. I have been using the beta of office for over a
| year - LOVE it.
|
| IE 7 works well here as well.
|
| Oh, and I take the postings of people who choose to use a pseudonym
| seriously... not.
