Dear ITSME,
A result this evening! Went into 'advanced BIOS settings' and it worked as you suggested. On MB sound card has stopped working but this is another thread.

Hello All
I want to transfer win98 os and files from an old hd to a new one. I have a free cd to do this and the two old pcs. I have a modem/router which has not been used. Can I use it to transfer the system without configuring the ADSL?
Thanks in anticipation,:)

err, nope ... you can't just "copy" an OS over as you can Data.

You need the original Win98 CD and do a new install on the new HD. However, the HD manufacturer may/should have some sort of "cloning" software that should/may work. Download it off their website.

HDs running "warm" is normal ... an ADSL modem router, that has never been used, will require some form of set-up. RTM

Dear Muckshifter,
Did not read the instruction carefully enough. Free disc will transfer applications and files. I understand that xp will see 98 files but not vice-versa. I have been promised the return of my 98 disks so will eventually do a clean install to replace xp on the new hdd.
