WHY are there so many people whom ALWAYS type THEN when they mean THAN
(but never vice versa)? I probably make more thAn my share of typos,
but this seems to be a permanent brain fart for many folks.

Hey now, don't loose your temper like that.

Be happy that this is an english newsgroup, where such posts about
spelling
are rare :)
In german newsgroups the arrogance is partly unbelievable. They'll come at
you in packs, if only forget so much as a . or ,

For that reason I completely refuse to take part in german groups, even
though I am german.

Ach du lieber, LOL.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Haha,I wanted to put something like that also in my reply since my german is
terrible.
But to stay on topic , I like the cat5.9. ,this driver suites my games even
a little bit better.
Regardless of my increased 3d05 score from 5300 to almost 5600 ,I find my
games running a little smoother also.

Hehe,a while back I asked a mate why he always typed with a capital I in his
posts,he explained this is proper english.
Still,I can't get used to it,lol,even now I'm constantly correcting my i.
Just doesn't feel right to me.But then I'm from Holland.
Cheers...

OMG. thank you for this english lesson all.And do believe me when i say
this.
To explain,i'm not brittish nor american nor any other english speaking
nation.I just learned a bit on school long time ago and made up the rest
while browsing the internet. So typing in the past or present form will
confuse me sometimes.
Lucky for me you still understand what i say though :P

Flow, my response wasn't directed toward you. I was being facetious. I
figured if Bob wanted to take time to make an English usage correction, he'd
better make sure he doesn't make any mistakes himself. I AM a teacher,
albeit not an English teacher. My mother, however, was (now retired).
Grammar and proper usage was pounded into me throughout my childhood (and,
to some extent, even now...hehe). But I usually don't get on the soap box
about mistakes made on usenet, unless...someone comes across as being an
expert and then makes a faux pas of his own in his rant. The bottom line is
that we get what we need through context. And that's enough. Carry on.

I know :) , I can understand when reading lots of spelling errors,of which
many are obvious or plain silly , a person needs to scream out once in a
while like bob did. However,I do notice once in a while ppl think when
reading english it must come from an english speaking person.
I guess that's only natural. Anyways,I think I'm doing fine in english
grammar,I stay away from the more difficult words untill i read them in
correct spelling :D
As you said,lets carry on...

Like I said, I probably make more than my share of typos. But yes, it's
embarrassing to make one when blasting someone else's grammar.
(Then-for-than is all I've ever had the urge to blast.) And it's more
embarrassing to find that English isn't that person's first language. :(

Is bush a part of your family or something? Then i guess you've just
find out that out side the border there is something else than the us
army. Also i would say the same thing if i were living in country and
i if was born there too. So for now shut up.

Flow, please forgive me. You're the first person I've flamed for whom
English is not his/her native language. Your command of English is
quite impressive, thus I never suspected English wasn't your first
language. If I had suspected it was a second language for you, then I
would have waited for someone else to pounce on. :)

(I sure wish English had a pronoun that means "his or her" so that I
don't have to say "his/her" or, incorrectly, "their." Same for he/she.)

"WHOM" is used "to WHOM", "for WHOM"

Simply embarrassing.

This then-for-than thing has had me baffled since I first noticed
Anthony Hill doing it in comp.dcom.modems way back around 1995. It's in
a class by itself from other common typos such as: your/you're,
its/it's, who/whom, should of, there/their/they're, etc.

As I'm sure you are aware, the pronoun that means "his/her" is... "his".

It is grammatically correct to use the male pronoun when referring to a
group of persons of mixed gender. It has become POLITICALLY incorrect
to do so, but it remains GRAMMATICALLY correct.

Well of _course_ there is something outside the border other than the US
Army--targets.

You're forgiven bob :P
No problem, like I said,it's natural to assume a person that writes english
grammar is from that origin.
Nevertheless, this thread has become quite interesting :)

Ow,and I also use google for certain words,it's like a dictionairy :D
Helped me out a few times for long/difficult words.

Wouldn't dictionary.com be more direct?
