Have just finished downloading at Guru3D and going to install & try out
next.
The download on the ATI download page did not start properly, but all the
Cat 5.9 info is there.

Cheers

Cheeky sods! They want to install some sort of download manager -
this is from the ATI page. Clicked out of it and the download started
anyway.

Good to see they're still doing a Control Panel version, though.

"Setting Anti-Aliasing to 4x in the Catalyst Control Center no longer
results in a blank window or an error message being displayed when launching
Java plug in"

Looks like there's progress. :-)

Confirmed.

I was pleasantly surprised that they fixed this at all, let alone so
quickly.

Good job ATI.

Is gameplay improved?

I'm having problems with the 5.8 Omega. I think that I'll stick it out
until he has the 5.9, though.

For me at least, yes, slightly. In certain benchmarking tracks of IL2-FB-PF
I get on average 2-3 fps more than with Cat 5.8, image quality brilliant as
ever.
This was at res. 1600x1200 at 4xAA and 4xAF on an X800 Pro flashed to X800
XT PE.

I saw the text about a download manager, but for me, using Firefox 1.5beta1,
it never appeared, and I was just presented with the file download as
normal.

Still using FF 1.07 and the download manager did appear but it was no
biggie...it came in very fast...

NFS Underground 2 flies now, a great improvement over the 5.8's.
Yet to try the biggie....Battlefield 2....later this evening I guess.

'Realism is seductive because once you have accepted the reasonable notion
that you should base your actions on reality, you are too often led to
accept, without much questioning, someone else's version of what that
reality is. It is a crucial act of independent thinking to be skeptical of
someone else's description of reality.'-

omega driver din't improve anything here... what's up with that kind
of driver. anyway i got a vivo card and i cant find the setting for
the hdtv ... it suck.

Download manager didn't appear with IE6. Could have been hidden by the
popup- and installer-blockers built into SP2. Incidentally the server is in
Toronto, so I maxed out my connection downloading it...

Just don't trust/accept the Akamai message (unless it's already a trusted
certificate) and the download defaults to a normal download.

No real improvement over the 5.7 or 5.8 imo.
Although i found the 5.8 a bit weaker in games then the 5.7 , now the 5.9
does have a better feeling to it then 5.8
My 3d05 is the same as with the 5.5,which is over 300 points more then with
5.7
Ofcourse there should be numerous game bug fixes which would not be apparent
for persons who don't play these games.
I'm sticking for a while with these 5.9 drivers, they are not bad.

WHY are there so many people whom ALWAYS type THEN when they mean THAN
(but never vice versa)? I probably make more thAn my share of typos,
but this seems to be a permanent brain fart for many folks.

OMG. thank you for this english lesson all.And do believe me when i say
this.
To explain,i'm not brittish nor american nor any other english speaking
nation.I just learned a bit on school long time ago and made up the rest
while browsing the internet. So typing in the past or present form will
confuse me sometimes.
Lucky for me you still understand what i say though :P

Be happy that this is an english newsgroup, where such posts about spelling
are rare :)
In german newsgroups the arrogance is partly unbelievable. They'll come at
you in packs, if only forget so much as a . or ,

For that reason I completely refuse to take part in german groups, even
though I am german.

I'm someone who had English grammar thoroughly beaten into me at
school (a long time ago!). If there's one thing I've learned from
Usenet, it's that if you worry about people's grammar, English skills
etc, you're just going to miss out on a lot of useful information,
interesting people and so on.

Then there's those piscatorial folk who just _like_ upsetting people -
and, no, I _don't_ mean you, Bob! I hear where you're coming from,
but I think you need to relax a little and look behind the words to
what people are saying. ;-)
