I tried installing the Nero 7 Ultra Edition Trial version 7.2.7.0 but it is
not compatible with Windows Vista Ultimate Beta 2 Build 5384

Roxio EMC 9 is out now and it is compatible with Vista x86 and x64. Not
that I suggest you switch, but just a heads up.

It's also not compatible with Vista Ultimate Edition RC1. It will
start the installation if you set it to work in XP SP2 compatibility
mode, but it won't finish the installation.

Nero better get on the wagon soon. My $79 investment is going down
the drain as I sit here.

Maybe next month I can afford Roxio.
Nero is slow to get with Microsoft changes.

I don't know if it means anything or not but it appears like Nero is going to
patch version 7 to be vista compatible. With Roxio it seems like they expect
you to buy version 9 for Vista compatibility. The fact that they would
consider patching the existing version puts them a notch higher in my book.

Another alternative is Ashampoo Burning Studio 6.2. It works good with Vista
(5600) and after the trail period you get an email with an discount of 45%,
so it will cost you 16$ (more or less)

Nero is much to bloated since version 7 anyway.

One other problem with IE7 on Vista, the order page from Ashampoo will not
work, I get the following message;

"There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a
trusted certificate authority.
Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or
intercept any data you send to the server"

So I used Firefox to complete my order.

If you don't receive your Ashampoo trail key, check your spam folder (if you
have any)

Hope this was helpfull for some.

And when is this supposed to happen? Soon, I hope. Or I WILL go with
a different product, and toss my $79 investment out the window.

Will double-clicking on an ISO automagically launch ABS and create a
burn job, as Nero will?

Well, you aren't required to install all the "bloat" (as you call it.)
However, many users don't know how to do a custom installation, and
wind up just taking the default settings.

Please reply to the original thread,
so that it may not become broken.

No, I use ImgBurn (freeware) to burn my iso's, and ImgBurn can burn a lot
more formats than nero can.

Maybe, but that doesn't apply to me, but you get all the stuff anyway, since
the download of a simple update almost takes 200 MB and that's _without_ the
necessary langue packs and add on's.

My point is, why wait for Nero with Vista support while there a 2 great
programs wich can help you right now, and they don't cost you anything. (at
least for the first 40 days that is)

Greetings,

People should be very careful about spending money on EMC9. It does NOT work
properly on Vista RC1. They are in the process of pulling references to Vista
related to EMC9. The actual problem is with IE7, users have the same problem
in XP if IE7 RC1 is installed. Roxio fails when trying to register or
activate, a jscript error. There is a reg hack to bypass the register
requirement and allow *some* apps to start. However, several apps will not
run properly because they require activation. Additionally, you will kill
your ability to use MPEG2 files (*.mpg), as Roxio takes over for it and the
codec is one of the parts that requires activation. If you use DivX you will
have to use a manual work around for that as EMC9 takes that over as well.

Roxio's forums are full of complaints and Roxio's response has been to back
peddle from their use of Vista in the marketing blurbs. In fact, they are
actually chastising users for complaining and saying it is pre-release and no
one said it would work (They DID say it would work, right on their web site,
and that it was tested on the Pre-release version-might require an update
after RTM of Vista).

Thanks for the update, Dan.

I can confirm everything you said. I read 'compatible with Vista' and
installed. But even with all the registry patches, I was not able to get
this to work.
all that was left to do was an uninstall and quickly forget about it.

in fact it still says this on their website;
Minimum System Requirements:
• Microsoft® Windows Vista Home/Business/Ultimate, Windows XP Home/Pro/MCE
(Service Pack 2), Windows XP Pro x64 Edition, Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4
or later)

call that marketing

I'm not sure why no one else is having problems with Nero 6. RC1 Beta 2 won't
download unless I remove Nero 6.

You can install nero 6 in vista after vista has been installed. Vista
complains, but it does work.

woops a slight mistake there, my name is not ntl newsgroups.

Actually, NERO has updates for customers running version 6, that makes it
compatible with Vista. Version 7.7.5.1 is fully compatible with Vista and is
provided also as a free update for customers who purchased version 7, thats
what I am running and its great, also comes with a cool Vista Burning
Gadget.

Does it handle ImageFile?

Vista beta.
