I'm posting this at 1:30 EST, Sunday, September 14. I worked for six
hours on a document for a class, had the AutoSave and AutoRecover
feature of a trial version of WORD 2007 on a new laptop autosaving
every five minutes, and now the document is lost. Entirely lost. I've
tried every search form I can think of; I don't know where else to
search.

If anyone knows where any Temporary Files might cache six-hour-long
work that simply vanishes (after you Save it), I would appreciate
knowing where to try to find it.

As soon as possible. Thank you.

Suffering Jesus, thank you--so *far*. I get the document followed by
an .ASD, and when I try to open it, I get an error message that the
file type is unknown. Please tell me what to do. I'm begging.

In Word , click the Microsoft Office Button, click Open, click All Files *.*
in the Files of type box, locate and select the file, and then click Open

I don't understand; should I do something with operands? The default
drop-down in the Open Box *IS* "All Files"

Could you just tell me where I could get some help opening this, since
you absolutely helped me find it?

This is f'ing torture. I teach at Penn State, and I feel like throwing
up, because I need this for tomorrow.

How do you use the Text Recovery converter? I got the message to use
this because "an error occurred." Then in apostrophes there was (C:\...
\Autorecovery save of [title].asd)

I just did a recovery ... by killing Word 2007 during writing.

1...as soon as Word gets re-opened , it auto recovered.

2.By navigating to the .asd file...click to open, select program from list,
then use word also recovered it.

3.By using the above technique in my previous post.

Besides that, you could try an office or word forum.

I don't understand what you mean by "killing Word 2007 during writing."

Install the full paid version of Office . It will then open. You are using the Trial and this is to be excepted

I lost six hours of painstaking, intense revision. Gone. I'm going to
buy software that does this to me? Possibly you haven't had a similar
experience.

Gone, baby, gone. A day that has changed my attitude toward Microsoft
forever. All gone.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't belong to a union. I wish you well
in your endeavors.

I wish you learn how to teach...you won't tho...you will bring your emotions
into teaching the way you brought them here.
Go suck an egg...learn to mop.

I have been using it since it was available on 3.1. I have never had
this particular experience happen to me in fifteen years.
Again I ask you . Is Word on your computer from a Trial version of Office
??????

Yes, it's a new laptop. Ironically and very painfully for me, I had no
trouble whatsoever using the trial version until this major job. I
have spent the better part of an unforgettable day researching this
issue, and apparently many WORD users have had similar experiences.

Therefore, I don't understand your point. Why would a trial version be
"expected" to destroy work? I'm not being facetious; being facetious
today is the furthest thing from my mind. I'm devastated. Would a
company who wants you to purchase something build into a software
program a glitch that devastates potential customers?

Thank you in any event for asking. As another poster said on some
forum whose URL I don't have, the AutoSave and AutoRecovery feature
logged a "save" every ten minutes; those bytes have to be *somewhere.*
But they aren't in the ASD file that the individual who posed as
someone offering help directed me to.

Try this: Make a copy of the .ASD file and change the extension from
..ASD to .DOCX. Then try to open the file in Word.

Did you ever save the file with a filename that you supplied while you
were working on it for those many hours?

Bill

The reason that I ask is because if it is then there is a simple solution to fix it.

Since you are not willing or do not want to answer me then I am out of this thread.

Good Luck with your endeavor for recovery
