Right. But why point out that distinction? What jitney wrote was
correct. Java is the programming language and Java script is the
program code. Turning off Java in a browser will keep Java script
from running. ...or am I missing something here?

Yes, Java and Javascript are two *different* languages. Java was
developed by Sun. Javascript was developed by Netscape. In browsers
where both are available, each has it's own toggle. You can run either
one, both or neither.
