DB_MasterOfDogs

Hello,

I just had a HD crash and needed to reinstall everything. Anyway I just
attempted to connect to a remote site to publish it back to my machine and
it won't connect. FP pops up the little "icon" stating that it is
connecting to the server and then nothing. I never get a password prompt it
never times out, nothing, nada. I don't see any traffic over my hub or any
indication that it has even opened a port. This is an Office 2002/XP with
sp2 install on an XP Pro OS. I've tried a re-install and a "repair". Any
ideas what I may be forgetting?

Thanks,

Phil Adkins

Can you browse to the site in IE and use File Edit w/ FP?

In FP are you using File Open Web and entering http://www.yourdomain.com/ ?

Stefan,

Yes I can browse to it. No I can not open and edit it with any of the
Office apps from within IE6, the apps will not even display the page. I can
open and edit it from within IE6 with TopStyle and Notepad. Yes I am using
http://www.mydomain.com from within FP "open web" dialog. I'm a bit at a
loss here; I've tried everything I can think of. Thanks for your help.

Phil Adkins

Oh, P.S. I can also FTP to the site either through a FTP client or through
IE6.

Phil

Provide a URL of the site

PS
you can only open a site in FP if the site has the FP SE and they are enabled (and you have not been using another editor (or FTP)
to edit your online FP web

Contact your host and have them check the FP SE

Stefan,

The URL is http://www.oakhurst-realestate.com. I have not uploaded to the
site using FTP I just attempted to login as an experiment to see if the site
was the problem.

I checked the "server health" through the FP admin and it cam back with a
clean bill of health, however I will shoot an e-mail to my host and see if
they can find a problem as well.

Phil

Obviously you can open the FP site in FP since you got to the FP admin OK

Thought you may have been using
http://www.oakhurst-realestate.com/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=webadmin.htm
or
http://www.oakhurst-realestate.com/_sharepoint/fpadmdll.dll?page=fpadmin.htm
which does ask for User ID / Password

From http://www.oakhurst-realestate.com/_vti_inf.html I'm seeing they are running
FPVersion="5.0.2.3501"

TBMK
The latest version of the FP2002 SE is 4330 of September 25, 2002
See http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS02-053.asp They may want to get this
security patch and check permissions

Can you open the site directly in FP, using File Menu | Open Web and then
enter your URL and login info, then clicking OK, then Open?

Yes. I'm not having any networking problems at all. Everything but FP
seems to be working as usual.

Is this a new problem with FP? If so, what new hardware or software have you
installed, have you switch ISPs or hosts?

Using that method, FP starts and that's about it. I do not get the
"connecting to web site" icon but I do see the little globe and arrow icon

directions? Based on my ISP's lack of responses to my questions, I am
becoming more convinced that they are blocking the client, but I don't know
for sure or why. I know that they are not blocking 80 or the other commonly
used ports.

Phil,

I would be glad to diagnose a Netmon trace on this for you. That might help
to figure out what's going on. You need to install the Windows XP Support
Tools and then run rasdiag for me. Here's how.

Put in your Windows XP CD and run setup.exe from the Support\Tools
directory. Once setup completes, run "rasdiag" from a command line. It
will display a command window telling you to reproduce the problem and hit
Space. Do that and it will save a .rdg file that you can send to me and
I'll have a look at what's going on.

Send it to the "support" e-mail at jimcoaddins.com.

Jim,

Using that method, FP starts and that's about it. I do not get the
"connecting to web site" icon but I do see the little globe and arrow icon
spinning. Does FP use any other ports besides 80 to connect? And in which
directions? Based on my ISP's lack of responses to my questions, I am
becoming more convinced that they are blocking the client, but I don't know
for sure or why. I know that they are not blocking 80 or the other commonly
used ports.

Thanks,

Phil

Jim,

I don't know how it is done, but it seems some ISPs have found ways to block
inbound/outbound port 80, but allow web access from browsers, may be they
are checking the UA string. They can also limit the file size that are being
uploaded and type, which can effect publishing.
