I must not be communicating very well. The idea was to see if it gave you an
*uninstall* option. Some of those setup packages occasionally do. No harm done
though as I mentioned.
Imaging Devices
UMAX PL-II SCSI Scanner Device
UMAX PL-II SCSI Scanner Device
UMAX PL-II SCSI Scanner Device

Nothing
And of course the ever-present 'New Hardware Wizard' window is present
and un removable for UMAX Powerlook II.
AFTER I installed vista355:
Identical, but Vistascan was added to 'installed programs'. I find no
way to execute it however. It is not in Start>All Programs.
On my system it appears under Start-> Programs-> Vistascan with a menu of
several possibilities including a utility and manual among other choices.
I found AEC671.sys among windows inf's. I deleted it.
I don't know what that is/was or what it has to do with all this. It's generally
a good idea to rename unwanted files rather than deleting them as they are
easily recovered then by renaming back in case an error was made.
I found all of the Powerlook drivers above in the Registry, but it
won't let me delete any of them (says there is an error).
I should add that MagicScan is out of the picture and NOT installed.
Ok. Magicscan & Vistascan are at the same level and at a separate level from
your scsi driver. Magicscan & Vistascan aren't necessarily mutually exclusive,
but it's best to look at it that way until you get things working. What I mean
by that is that your scsi card installation:
SCSI and RAID controllers
Adaptec AIC-7850 SCSI Controller
VAXSCSI Controller
looks just fine to me and no change needs to be made to that pci scsi card
installation! It's worth noting that you wouldn't be prompted to install the
scanner if that scsi card wasn't working.
Since you say that you've managed to get rid of Magicscan and have Vistascan
installed now instead, then let's stick with Vistascan. Have you run aspichk.exe
like we did before? or looked at twain.log?
Is the scanner still actually working right now? and it is "working" to my mind
only if you can use it from within your imaging software to scan a picture or
document to create an image file like a .jpg file.
