I really dont think i need a 580w PSU, why wouldnt a 380w PSU be enough? I just cant see why i would need 580w.

So get the 380W then if you're convinced.

You asked for advice, you received sound advice and were given reasons in earlier posts why you need the extra power.

Your whole system - everything - depends on a good, stable power supply that can deliver smooth current under all conditions.

If you choose to skimp, it's up to you.

I appreciate the advice :p I have spoken to toher ppl aswell and they have said i wouldnt need 580w and that 400w is fine.

Its just very confusing, although the price is very good. What are the disadvantages of having a 580w PSU if any?

Im really sorry if i coem across as being rude, im just making sure im getting teh correct things as im always doing the wrong thing e.g buying a prebuilt pc, if i had built it myself i wouldnt have to pay £190 for upgrades.

Unfortunatly Stuart, manufacturers like to play a "numbers game" with us ... the max Watts suggested on a PSU is missleading.

You have to look closer at what the "lines" actually produce ... a good guide is to add the 3.5v + 5v suppy ... I have seen a 300watt have 3.5v+5v add up to 180watt and a 400W have only 120W on those rails. In that case the 300W is a better deal. That is just a guide.

The "team" here at PCReview are very good with their FREE advice ... 98% of it is very accurate, so the likes of us "Old Geeks" do not bother answering these time old questions again & again. We leave it to the yonger squad to put you straight.

So, the likes of Floppy and me get a little 'annoyed' when the good advice we see posted is being ignored.

Budgets are always tight ... ;)

Sorry, i didn't even think about that. I can imagine :) Im very grateful for the advice, im just trying to pretend i know what im talking about ;)

Just one question though, are hiper a good make?

I bet everyone is fed up with me on this forum aren't they, i would be, im always going on and on :)

Sorry again

the 580 Hiper is silent and its got over/under current protection so it will keep your new hardware safe... modular too, and its cheap.

After having a look i have come up with the following PSU's.

Antec SmartPower 450PGB 450W PSU - Atx 2.01 Dual Rails

Tagan TG480-U01 480W ATX2.0 SLi Compliant Silent PSU

Hiper 580W Type-R Modular PSU

Im going to buy a PSU tonight or early tommorow morning and would be interested in your opinions. Dont worry this will be the last time i ask you about PSU's :) Im also getting the X800GTO, not sure if thats makes any difference to what PSU to get.

If you dont like any of those my budget is max £60 and would be really interested to hear your sugegstions.

Thanks again, your help is much appreciated.

You are right i can get it instore for the web price:

However, provided you bring your Collect@Store print out and/or
reference number with you, our store will supply the goods at the online
price which applied when you chose to Collect@Store - this may be cheaper
than the usual in store price!</p>

Thanks :)

There is no disadvatage to having a higher power PSU... it wont use more electric. The *FULLY* modular design makes it a dream to work with!

Im buying it! TOMMOROW!
