MSWMM- burned to DVD

I have searched and searched to try and find the answers....I am ready to pull my hair out! Any one who can help please do!

I want to burn my home movies that I have made with windows movie maker to a dvd that will play on my dvd player. I have tried with nero and it doesn't work. Why? What can I do to fix it? If keeps telling me the file is unsupported or something along those lines. Do I need to change the file format? I have TMPG but that tells me the same thing when I try to open the file to ghange the format.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

did you burn a DVD in nero or a VCD ?

the video files will be in .WMV (unless you've converted them) these cant be burnt to DVD unless you convert either to DVD format (.vob) or to .MPEG to make a S/VCD

I think the option I chose was video cd....How do I convert the files to a dvd supporting format?
Thanks for your help.

you'll need a program to convert the files, i used DVD santa once, downlad a trial version it should allow you to convert the files then use nero to burn them to DVD

also this will take a couple of hours depending on your system and it will probably make your system incredibly slow so it will probably be best to leave it while it converts

it will work for video that wasn't edited but all the videos that I have edited and put together with wmm wont work.
Thanks for your help.

thats the problem, open up movie maker and the project and hit ctrl+p save for playback on "my computer" and point to an appropriate folder then select the other settings option and set to "vide for local playback (2.1 Mbps PAL)" and click save, once its finished then you should be able to use DVD santa to convert it

Thanks for the help...I am still trying to save it. It is only at 90% and it has been running for over 12 hours. Holy cow eh. Is it supposed to take that long?

Thanks again!

if its a long video and you've got a slow CPU then yes it will take ages, i did a 1 hour vid on my 3.3Ghz system and it took a good couple of hours to save

well....it saved and I went thru santa and it worked but the audio isn't there. i wonder why? They also have a great big demo version sign on the movie. Is there anything else out there that will convert the program for me that I don't have to pay for? What is TMPG? Will that work? I have heard of otheres using it.

Thanks!

do you mean TMPGEnc ? you cant convert .WMV files with that. the sound might be because its a demo version but i think it worked with me

make a couple more posts and i'll PM you a link for another App

I am not very framilar with this forum....how will you pm me a link? You can email it if thats easier....Thanks again for being so helpfull, this stuff gets so frusterating sometimes! I am not much more than a computer rookie, it;s actually really quite sad....

New problem!!! I got everything to burn and all but I watched the video and the audio is way off. Why did this happen?!?!? It is very distracting to try and watch, how can I fix it?

i know what the problem is, when you converted using DVD santa did you select NTSC or PAL ? (the video you saved yesterday is in PAL which really should be NTSC as your in the states which is my fault as i assumed you were in the UK :o but DVD players can play both formats luckily for you or it would have meant starting again) , if you used NTSC then it will be out of sync as the frame rate is different to the video you saved, so use DVD santa again and make sure its set PAL and you should have one working DVD

next time you save the video in windows movie maker to make it the american format, first go to tools > options > advanced tab > and set the video format to NTSC, then when you save the movie use "video for loacl playback 2.1 Mbps" not the PAL version, then in DVD santa you can use the NTSC conversion format

So with the movie that I saved yesturday I should go back to santa and change it to PAL and then go ahead and burn it again...then with future movies I should save them in NTSC and not PAL, so the option I should choose would be video for local playback 2.1 Mbps ?? Did I get that right? Than when I go to burn with santa i can leave it on the ntsc option? I hope I got this right.

Thanks!
Sara

I tried changing it to PALS and the dvd burnt but it is all shaky, like if the tracking on a vhs is off. I should also mention that there is no audio on it at all. What a mess....
