Rainy,

Your msconfig.jpg shows that you are in Selective Startup. That is why
you
are getting the Selective Startup message and registry entry. That is why
the registry entry came back.

Open msconfig | General tab | Click Normal startup | Click Apply | Click
OK
|
There may be a message that you have to reboot | Click OK or whatever and
reboot

I disabled both of them... found that the program that was doing this is
Advanced Uninstaller Pro... I found a place to disable it from startup..
but it doesn't work.. thanks for all the help.. will have to contact
Advanced Uninstaller Pro... I think the registry and the program are
fighting each other.. :) thanks for all the help.. Rainy

yes it came back.. right underneath Run is Runadvanced Uninstaller with
the same string in the right pane... should I also delete that.. I don't
see anywhere in Advanced Uninstaller that would allow me to change that?
Thanks Rainy
Rainy,

Delete the whole MSConfig entry.

Right click MSConfig in the right hand pane | Select Delete | Answer
Yes
to
the prompt: Are you sure you want to delete this value?

The MSConfig entry might come back, I don't know.

I have done this many times... it still does not go away when
windows
boots.. I will try it again... just to be sure! I saved this
message
so
I
could let you know what happened.. it did it again after I clicked
on
the do not show this message.. and it did anyway.. thanks Rainy
what that message is telling you is that you either made a
change..(or
you opened msconfig did not make a change but did not hit cancel.)
Either way, all you need to do to stop the message is click the box
that says 'do not show this message'..or words to that affect.

Hi Wes.. thanks for the thorough response.. I have changed it to
normal and the utility still does it.. I also rebooted a couple of
times without messing around with msconfig.. to test it.. Rainy
This is the message...

[[You have used the System Configuration Utility to change the
way
Windows
starts.
The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or
Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and
the
utility to run
every time Windows starts.
Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start
Windows
normally
and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration
Utility.]]

Click Start | Click Run | Type: msconfig | Click OK |
Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab |
Click Apply | Click OK

You may see this message...
[[You must restart your computer for some of the changes made by
System Configuration to take effect.]]

Click the Restart button.
Your machine will then reboot.

Seems like I go away for Thanksgiving to visit my son and my
computer falls apart when I get back.. here is the last problem
I
think..

System Configuration Utility starts with windows every time, and
it's on selective startup but startup items are not checked..

thanks in advance .. Rainy
