More proof that Intel sucks

It's all about power consumption, heat disipation, size constraints, etc.

User-Upgradeable Graphics
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 PRO 128MB
15.4"inch WideSXGA+ 1680x1050 LCD
60GB 7200rpm HDD with 8MB Cache

Hi,
The Intel® chipsets (i.e: motherboards) have a much better Dual-Channel
memory controller and a much better SATA-RAID-0 system (ICH5R).

Better than what! How come the amd64's are doing so well? I looked for a
bench of the ICH5R vs Promise's, nada, we have both on our P4c800e/del,
we used the promise to stripe our raptors, Intel driver support has been a
little
lacking lately, they seem to be guilty of rushing them out before they are
ready.
The application accelerator seems to be a joke!

Until these ugly new models Alienware has just taken retail parts, added a
paint job and charged a hefty price. At least now they have a case you
can't buy elsewhere.
Laptops are always a year behind in the technology!

Just go to Sager and buy one without the paint job. It's got to be
cheaper without the paint, right?

Okay, I'll admit they do have a neat logo...

Huh? Dell's are Junk!!! They use the cheapest of cheap hardware inside.
Have you ever seen a dell built with any of the following.
Radeon 9000 or 9600 or even 9800 Pro- No.
True - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 No.
And if you ask for it, it will cost you.
(If something seems cheap, it probably is.)
Hp is the same way, I know, cause I've worked with them already.
Did you ever try to order parts for a Dell? (LOL) Never will I do it.

Ahhh?? P4c800e What? & besides, if that's a prescott core, they don't
cost that much.
I guess your finding out why.

As you see, price speaks for it's self.
Other thing, try putting your hand on your CPU after running it for long
time.
Or other parts on your MB, Those things really were not ready yet. Intel
should have tried to work a few more things out before
releasing them.
AMD's are looking more & more to my liking then ever.
I like the High bandwith & long pipeline to the P4c800 2.6 GHz @ 3.23 GHz
But when it comes to Video gaming, I would love to have another
AMD 2000+ or 2400+ and a 3000+ would really be nice. & my Gigabyte MB
supports the 400FSB needed.

smart. (Not, I'm still learning.) Smile,, even when times are bad.

I bought a Dell and built an AMD. If I needed another computer and
could take my time and watch prices for a few months, I might easily
find a Dell for an outstanding price and buy it.

Note the following 8/4/04 post from techbargains.com for instance:
*Dell P4-2.4Ghz/800 Desktop $429,* /Aug 4/

Dell Small Business <http://www.techbargains.com/j/9.htm> has this desktop which uses the latest P4 chip and DDR400Mhz Memory for max performance <http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030521/800fsb-16.html>. It costs only $30 more than the P4-2.4Ghz-533Mhz/333Mhz Memory version but is faster than P4 2.8Ghz/533Mhz!

Dimension 4600 <http://www.techbargains.com/j/9.htm> desktop P4-2.4Ghz/800Mhz Bus/HyperThreading, Intel 865 chipset, 256MB Dual Channel DDR400 memory/40GB 7200 HD, 48x CD, Free Office XP Small Business, No monitor, 6 months ISP, XP Home $579 - $150 rebate <http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/bsd/bsd_rebate_form.pdf> = $429 shipped free.

Select Desktops, Choose Dimension, Featured Systems under 4600, Customize it on middle config, 2.4Ghz/Dell Quietkey/48x CD/No monitor/No speaker/Integrated 5.1 audio/Integrated 10/100 Ethernet/Choose ISP - Continue, Continue, Add to cart

Please show me how you can beat that even now---six months later.

Campare this to build it yourself, and you still look dumb.
You didn't say weather or not it was Prescott, or Northwood core. That e in P4c800 says to me
that it's a Prescott.
Or was this a typo. If not, I could've built it for myself for less
then you spent.
400Mhz AHH It's called PC-3200, it's not needed @ all.
I get much better benchmarks off of my PC2100 Overclocked.
What the Hell do you want with 240 GBytes of hard drive space, you going to
capture a lot of Video or something?
It's about all you need so much space for.
Do they bench mark anywhere around 57Mb/s and up to 75? This is what I get
out of my Maxtor 120 IDE with 8Megs of cach.
Should I go on, or do you get the point? (You don't need to overdue it so
far.)
I could build almost the same setup, the same extra's, for half as much.
But your still trying to look smart.
OK I lie, not half, but less.
Denny. :-) always with a smile, even if times are bad.

You made stupid statements, I refuted them, btw I am a system builder!
The only computer I ever had built was a p133, my first and the local shop
screwed it up, a bunch of damn tech students working for a crook.
Get your facts straight.

I have been building AMD's for a few yrs but made the mistake of buying a
Celeron 2.3GHZ 256MB Dell Latitude ($600 new). What a dog! Decoding Naked
News at the maximum bitrate in WMP takes 100% of the processor.
A T-Bred 1700+ running @2000+ (1.67GHz) uses only 15%.

And it feels so slow, even after reformatting and installing WinXP Pro. It
feels about like a Duron 750 I have running at 933MHz....but slower.

That would be proof that *Celerons* suck, which the rest of us already
knew, troll-b01.

To say the least, Intel are trying to fool everyone by P4 (which is a decent
proc) based celerons at v-cheap price. However, at a much less price, Amd's
Durons are much much better and faster than celerons. Hell, the old
coppermine celerons were better than new p4 celerons, when clocked to same
level.
Not everyone is rich, or have need for expensive system. So many consider
budget cpu's, it's a reality. Intel sucks because they sell piss poor
celerons at higher prices than durons, while Dell sucks Xtra more for using
celerons (and not durons) in cheap models..

Yea, that's what I figured too. But you never know. It's a laptop, he

Why would they even want to bother, people here like to use Brand Names like
MSI, Asus, Gigabyte/ of which I have two, one Socket 462/A And one Socket
478

Is this all that this BoB guy wants or something? Trying to get one of us to
buy a Dell? If so, mine would cost a lot, Laptop that is. And I would
build those for myself if I could too.
For right now, my time is getting short with going even further
understanding hardware. (A+)
There's a lot in the book that I know about as I'm reading it, and a few
things I don't, but in order to pass (A+) I'm going to need it.

Are you seeing this BoB? Yes, most of what's in this (A+) Book I already
know, I'm reading it for the few things I don't know.....
Denny. :-) Still :: Always with a smile, even if times are bad.

You can put Pirelli P-Zero Corsas on a Yugo, but that don't make
it a race car.

I've never liked Celerons. Every single one that I've used was really slow
in comparison with an AMD. (even the old, 400MHz ones.)

I've never liked Celerons.

I liked them instead (300A - 400A) or Tuallies if running on good BX
MoBo; well the first ones (w/o L2) & the last P4 based ones really
suck! Yuck! The last ones also heat ...
..... if I would need now a new machine, would for sure go for AMD
platform - Duron Applebred 1,4 or 1,6 & OC it like mad; best bang for
a buck IMHO ...
