Monitor not resizing properly

Here was my solution to the problem -

I'm running an ATI 1650X card. Problem started two or three
weeks ago. In attempting to solve the problem I have used
two different video cards, two LCDs and one CRT monitor in
different combinations and problem persisted. I have done
file and registry searches for conflicts that might affect
the screen resolution and found nothing that made any
difference. Thinking back, I don't recall having had this
problem with ATI's 7.2 and 7.3 drivers. I've been regularly
updating the ATI drivers to each new version as it became
available and recently updated to 7.7, and still the problem
was there.

So, as a desperation measure I uninstalled the CCC portion
of ATI's installed programs earlier today and left just the
video card drivers. Guess what? The problem seems to have
gone away. I have rebooted and resized the screen many times
today and the problem has not returned.

I also noticed in an earlier post this evening that Wayne
Wastier mentioned that he had reinstalled ATI's 7.2 drivers
and that had solved the problem for him.

IIRC someone (Freddy?) a few days ago mentioned something
about an ATI run time routine that had been adopted into the
Vista package. I'm thinking that perhaps one of Vista's
updates changed something within this routine that does not
work properly with the custom colour and driver routines of
ATI's CCC and NVidea's equivalent in all cases.
