Not sure whether this is the right newsgroup, but here goes anyway...

I have a Conexant HCF V90 modem, which I use rarely now I'm on broadband.
However, when I tried it out today (mostly for fax services), the speaker
did not sound at all. I have checked its properties in Device Manager, and
it's set to "Speaker on while connecting". I expect to hear it dial out,
but nothing is heard, although it does dial and connect. Anyone any ideas?

Sure. Ask somewhere else. Your problem is not related to XP

Try this: Go to the "Advanced" tab in the Device Manager modem
Properties and in the "Extra initialization commands" enter (or add) M1L3.
This sets the speaker to on during connecting and the volume to loud.

I think my driver must have got corrupted somehow. On uninstalling &
re-installing the modem, it picked up the latest drivers, and I now get
sound from the modem speaker. Thanks for suggestions.
