Have a look in Device Manager to see what driver you're using then if
necessary Control Panel|Add New Hardware and add the manufacturer's Windows
2000 driver. As always be sufficiently backed up when performing operations
of this sort.

when i looked in the device manager i saw "Win 2000
Promise Ultra100 (tm) IDE Controller (PDC20265)"
under "SCSI- and RAID-units". Is that what you mean ?

Yes that's it. Check the mb documentation is the drive plugged into the
correct connector?

You always want to use the primary connector for the drive you're going to
boot from. On the other hand it's obviously working. As far as the
recognition problem you may want to call the mb manufacturer to see if there
is an updated driver you should be using for your integrated drive
controller.
