Hello,

I have a problem when I copy an colored text from excel to PPT. For instance
if I copy a red text to PPT, the text color will reset to black.

What Do I wrong? I works when I using an different account on the same
machine.

Thanks.

Christian

Which version of PowerPoint are you using?

For newer versions, you get a Smart tag that allows you more control over
how the content is pasted. For older versions, try Edit | Paste Special to
get more options.

Also, the color scheme of the presentation in which you are pasting may be
effecting the color of the pasted text.

I use PPT 2003.

I know smart tags, but I use Paste Special -> Picture (Enhanced metafile),
to reduce the file size and to get the correct picture from excel.

I also use the default color scheme.

You aren't discussing pictures here? I thought you meant text.

PowerPoint changes the color of the text to black in the default template if
you select the Keep Text Only option in the smart tag. Otherwise, the
default smart tag option is Table, and that retains the red color.

If you are using the smart tags, you don't need to use Paste Special |
Picture (Enhanced Metafile)

If you must use Paste Special, try Paste Special | HTML format.

Again, all this info is for text, not graphics.

Sorry for the missunderstanding. We copy a large table from excel including
table borders, background and colored text. We do not want to insert this as
an html table. We want to insert this as picture. It is easier to handle and
we get the exactly the same view (from excel to ppt). I know if I use the
keep text option I will get only black text.

If I paste using Strg+V I got the correct color.
If I paste using Paste Special -> Picture (enhanced metafile) I got only
black text.

I tried pasting red colored text in Excel cells as an EMF through Paste
Special in PowerPoint, and it gets pasted as red text.

Are you saying that you get black text when you do the same?

Let me paraphrase these other observations from your earlier mails:

1. You are using PowerPoint 2003 and Office 2003.

2. You are using PowerPoint's default template.

3. The same behavior does not happen on another computer -- just on the one
you are using?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Same behavior does not happen on the same machine using a different user.

This will sound odd, but set your default printer to a color printer. That
should take care of it.

I repeat myself:

It works with different users on the same and other machines. But it does
not work for a specific user. I just cleared the profile, but it does not
helps.

I can paste my table from excel in Word or in PPT as Picture on both
programs I get only a black text. I dont want to use html, because in some
other tables is a chart included. Despite of this it just works with other
users.

Any idea why he resets the font color? First I thougt it depends on the
compatibilty features (2000 vs. 2003) of office.

Very good, now it just works. But what is the problem?

I can't set always the color printer as default printer for this user.

Any ideas?

Yes, you do make yourself clear -- just that there's not an obvious
explanation for this unless we are missing something obvious. So, we are
trying all possibilities and guesses to see what can help you resolve the
issue.

As such, the color of text in PowerPoint has nothing to do directly with a
profile unless (as Echo mentioned) it relates to the default printer. And as
odd as it may seem, we need to make sure that this is not the issue before
we move ahead -- so is the default printer for this profile a color printer
or not? Or does it have no printer installed?

Do let us know.

Isn't the default printer profile-specific? (I'm asking, I don't know.)

Sorry, I don't know what causes the problem, and I don't know of any other
workaround. I just know that changing to a default color printer fixes it.

Perhaps someone else will have ideas.

I am having the same issue. I am copying a chart from excel to word using
the save as picture metaphile. I've done this lots in the past with no
problem. But now when i paste it automatically goes to black and white. I
don't have a color printer available as a default, but am sending the file to
someone who does. The issue is if it worked before, what did i change w/o
noticing it that they now copy as no color. the smart tag allows me to past
as picture (of which it then goes in blacke and white), as an excel chart
(but then i need to resize it in excel before copying), or as a link to excel
chart (same issue as above)

it frustrates me because i used to do it all the time and then all of a
sudden, poof, i can't get what i want.

This is the PowerPoint group, not the Word group, so I don't know if our fix
will work in Word or not.

Anyway, install a color printer driver (you don't have to have one actually
attached to the computer) and set it as the default printer. Or heck, maybe
you just need it installed -- you might not even have to set it as the
default printer. Here are instrux:

I don't know why this would start happening all of a sudden -- or, indeed,
why it happens at all. Sorry. I know it's frustrating.

Thanks for the help.
I figured it out. I'm an idiot! :-)
All it turned out to be was that on my chart I had the bars in color AND
with patterns. I did this so if someone printed it on a non-color printer it
would be easy to differentiate. I guess Word thought the same thing and just
did it that way; i.e. not both elements. Once I took the patterns off it
copies in color as I'm used to.
