I have just switched to a new PC running Vista and find that my Picture It
2001 software will no longer run. Is there anyway I can convert my PHP files
so I can use/see them in another program? Is there another program compatible
to Vista that would read PHP files?

Thanks

Have you looked at www.irfanview.com ?

Thanks Dennis

Have just checked the website but I can't see the PHP format in the fairly
comprehensive list, looks like I'll just have to recreate those files I still
need.

I noticed that PHP wasn't in there but I have never heard of images in that
format so I thought it might be a typo.
TIFF, JPEG and PNG are probably the most portable formats if you have a
choice when you save them.

DIS Anniversary Edition is optimized for
Vista and there is a compatibility patch
for DIS2006.

MS Digital Image 2006
*Vista Compatibility* Update
http://tinyurl.com/w5u58

I successfully installed my MS Picture It! /
MS Digital Image programs on my Vista
partition.

The versions that function correctly are:
PI99, PI2000, DIS9, DIS10, DIS2006,
and the DIS 2006 Anniversary Edition.

PIPP2001, PIPP2002 and DIP7 will
install but will not run correctly. At least...
they will not run on my machine.

FWIW...I've also seen reports that some
users have issues when running DIS10
on Vista.

All versions of MS Picture It! / MS Digital
Image will open your old Picture It! .mix and
..php files. The most current version is called
Microsoft Digital Image Suite Anniversary
Edition and some retail stores still have it
in stock.

There's a 60 day trial version available for
download if you would like to give it a try:

Microsoft Digital Image
Starter Edition 2006
http://tinyurl.com/28loxr
(this product line has been
discontinued but you can still
down-load the Starter Version
and run it for 60 days)

Unlike the retail version...the trial does not
have the ability to create VCDs and it does
not include the clipart and pre-formatted
projects.

IrfanView is a great program but is not
compatible with Picture It! .php files.

MS Picture It! and MS Home Publishing used
the .php format for layered project files. They
are only compatible with the MS Picture It! /
MS Digital Image series of programs.

Thanks John I'm sure that must be the definitive answer, question now is do I
fork out for the software (I have a number of other photo enhancing bits of
software) or just use Picture It on my Laptop using XP Pro.

All the suggestions have been very much appreciated.

Regards

You're welcome.

IMHO...the new version has a better set of
editing tools. But I would suggest that you
try the 60 day trial and then you could make
your own decision.

I've treid setting the compatibility program but it does not offer me a 2003
server option, only XP or 2000, neither of which work. Any suggestions why
this is?

I running Vista business, and like all the others here trying to use my old
PI2001 on it

My experience is that Picture It! 2001
will not run successfully on Vista. The
steps to use the compatibility mode
were posted by a user who said it
worked for them but I have no verification
that it ever worked for anyone else.

Here's what I have on the subject....

I successfully installed all my MS Picture It!/
MS Digital Image programs on the Vista
partition.

The versions that function correctly are:
PI99, PI2000, DIS9, DIS10 and DIS2006.

PIPP2001, PIPP2002 and DIP7 will
install but will not run.

I've also seen a few reports that DIS10
has problems when running on Vista.

The following info was posted 09-22-2007
in the Picture It! Newsgroup but it did not
work for me:

It's also possible to run Picture It! in a Virtual
Machine if you have a copy of WinXP that
can be activated. Here's a link to a message
from someone who tried it:
"*Update* Picture It! Publishing Platinum
2002 on Vista"

===

The most recent 2006 version is optimized
for Vista: "Microsoft Digital Image Suite

are good sources for hard to find software.

There's a 60 day trial version available for
download if you would like to give it a try:

Setting it to Windows Server 2003 SP1 would not make a significant
difference, since XP (version 5.1) and Server 2003 (version 5.2) are
technically the same version. Server 2003 only adds a new version of IIS,
NOS technologies and more code hardening for Server environments. As for
Picture It! I would just update to a more recent release or use Windows
Photo Gallery which basically incorporates a majority of the tools available
in Picture It! except for the lack of stock content.

Thanks for your input on Windows Server
2003 SP1. One user had reported success
using that option and I simply share the info
I have available...it did not work for me.

The OP wants to open and edit Picture It!
2001 .mix files which are not compatible
with Windows Photo Gallery. The latest
(last) version of MS Digital Image.....
"Microsoft Digital Image Suite Anniversary
Edition" would be the best option.

I use PhotoDraw 2000 v2 which works fine on Vista. :)
=======================
That's good to know...however...
PhotoDraw 2 .mix files are not consistent
with Picture It! .mix files as explained in
the following article.

Thanks John (and Andre).
For my purposes the Digital Images 2006 starter edition meets all my
needs...what happens after 60 days, since you can' upgrade or buy it....does
it carry on working?

Basically all I want is to be able to edit and update old PI2001 files (.PNG
files) I already have using roughly the same tools. DI2006 sems to do this,
and it works on Vista (though precious little else does, but that's another
story!)
I don't need templates and all that stuff.

Many thanks
Mak
