that this version cannot be installed on vista... go figure...

You are a legend thanks

I have got a solution to this from my IT Director at work for my problem. I
will post it here in case it is of any use to anyone else.

Run CMD as an administrator (type cmd in the serch pain in the start menu
then right click the icon in the and select Run as administrator). Then
type or paste in the the follwing:

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

It worked for me, so hopfully will do so for anyone else. Obvioulsy take it
under advisement before you do it as I personaly don't know how it fixes my
problem.

Matt.

I don't have the answer. But as an workaround it seems to help to run it as
administrator (right click icon).

FINALLY!

i was gonna kill my fkin pc tower for this shit! hahahhaa

thanks!!

Shamus,

I'm getting the same thing, but mine was working fine then only started
today. I get exactly the same error report. The netsh solution doesn't work.
Also the workaround running as an Administrator doesn't work either.

Are you still having this issue?

Cheers,
Scott

Hmm,

I know people hate to do this, but, have you tried clearing your
MessengerCache in %temp%

It may help, it may not, but its worth a shot.

Nice thought, hadn't tried that, but still does not work.

It signs in for a second, then when you go to do anything the app just
freezes and it sends off its report to microsoft, containing yet again:

Yup, uninstalling JRE 6, then, open Messenger go into Tools, Options, and
uncheck "Show Windows Live Today", then, reinstalling java works.

I did have JRE6 installed, so I deleted as per your advice, still exactly the
same problem. I'm sure it has something to do with the live today page, as it
seems to stop when that would normally come up, but removing JRE 6 doesn't
fix it. It also doesn't get to the point where I can disable that option
before crashing.

Cheers,
Scott

If I could figure out what the URL is for the today page, then, you could
block the today page from showing up by blocking it in the HOSTS file, then,
you would be able to get into Messenger, and disable the today page.

I have downgraded to version 8.0 which seems to be working again. I have
disabled the today page but am reluctant to upgrade as it is prompting me to
do and that's what I did in the first place and gave me all the problems.

I have the same problem like you SAM-AU I took your advice and it work realy
great ,i have no moe problem with version 8.0
thank you.

Here is someBased on your report we understand that as soon as you sign into
Windows Live Messenger, it crashes and you see an error report.
Based on the symptoms you reported, we think this may be caused because you
have an older version of flash on your machine. Windows Live Messenger and an
earlier version of flash are known to have some conflicting issues with Data
Execution prevention enabled on Windows Vista.
Please try the steps below to resolve the issue.
1. Uninstall the current version of Flash by going to the link below and
following the steps in the document.
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
2. Install the latest version of flash by going to
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
3. After installation, restart the computer and then attempt to sign into
Windows Live Messenger.
4. If the issue persists and if you are using an Acer machine, this may
apply to you - We’ve learned that some of our customers that use Acer
computers with the Vista operating system may be experiencing problems
running Windows Live Messenger 8.1. Acer has released a patch that could
help fix this issue. Please refer to the below link for details
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/fo...m/us&siteid=7293&words=all&keywords=&areaid=7
5. If you had any other type of machine and not an Acer and are still
experiencing the issue, please provide us with the following information
a. Make and Model of your vista machine
b. Vista Operating system SKU (Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business
or Enterprise)
c. Output from the tasklist.exe command line tool. Follow the steps below to
generate this information
i. Click on the START Pearl and type in CMD in the search bar and hit Enter
to open the command window.
ii. In the command window, type in the following command exactly as you see
below and hit Enter to execute it.
tasklist /M > C:\runningtasks.txt
iii. After the command is executed successfully, a file called
runningtasks.txt will be created in the C:\ drive. This contains the list of
applications running on your machine at this time and the dlls loaded by each
process.
iv. This list will help us during our investigation to determine what
libraries are loaded and running when you experience this issue.
d. The details of the error report. To gather this information
i. Click the Start pearl, type wercon.exe and press Enter.
ii. Click “View Problem History†on the left side of the “Problem Reports
and Solutions†window.
iii. Scroll down and see if there are any “MSN Messenger†reports or
“Messenger†reports that occurred around the same time the problem you
indicated occurred.
iv. Double click the report and click “Copy to Clipboard†at the bottom of
the dialog.
v. Paste (CTRL + V) the crash information from your clipboard into your
email response to this issue.
6. In addition to the crash report, please attach the runningtasks.txt file
in your response to us for additional investigation. info I got from
Microsoft:

The solution is to uninstall java 6, I have removed flash and ensure the
latest version was running and this did not fix it. When i remove java 6
messenger works fine when I install java 6 it crashes as soon as I open it
with the message windows messenger has stopped working.

So bottom line it is Java 6
