It is *inconsistent*, every each is different. If you do not do
that, your raw files will cut off parts of the image and store

Not here it isn't. Even on NikonScan 3.0 supplied with the scanner it
was only ever the first and last couple of frames, usually just the
first or last ones, that was ever out of position relative to the
others. Since NS4.02 was installed recently, I have not found *any*
frames out of position in any roll.
I have completely no idea what are you talking about. Could
you refer to "The Gate" in the NikonScan Manual?
An old term from the days of good old analogue enlargers and projectors.
The gate is the image capture area. On the Nikon scanner this is 38mm
wide on the SA-21 and SA-30 adapters - a clear millimetre either side of
the nominal frame size.
