It's the same thing. VCOM bought all of Ontracks software not related to data retrieval.
I have a registered version of Pro 5 and that's the one I'm having trouble with on an XP
system

VCom's Powerdesk is truly free and quite good. Some will tell you it is
nagware, but all I have ever seen it do along those lines is when you exit
the program it briefly (about half a second) displays a photo of the upgrade
box. (I'm using v5.0.1.6).

The upgrade does more stuff, but the free version offers real value.

I hope someone can help me here. I'm looking for a replacement for the Windoes Explorer.
Right now I'm using Powerdesk Pro 5 and one GREAT feature that I find really handy is File
Nfo. If you're not familiar with Powerdesk Pro 5, the File Nfo feature shows you the first
line of any text document in the explorer window, along with file name, date, size,
attributes, etc. I sort through and produce a lot of text documents so this feature is
fantastic.

Unfortunately, either Powerdesk Pro 5 doesn't like Windows XP, or Windoes XP doesn't like
Powerdesk Pro 5. In any event, it doesn't work well at all. Freezes, shuts down, takes
forever to do anything, etc.

Does anyone know of another Windows Explorer replacement that does the same thing. I've
tried a number of them but none seem to have the File Nfo feature. Lots have a view
button, but it's not the same thing.

Any help would be appreciated!
Don't know if it does exactly what you want but I use Free Commander.

I hope this program gets nominated.
It is a file manager with excellent zip file support.

A43 has fairly good treatment of zip files, but
Free Commander treats them exactly like folders.
Which is what we want, so we can copy and move
files into and out of zip files.

Other freeware file managers do not have any zip file
features, as fas as I know.

The zip- and rar-handling is great, and I realy like the filesplitter to.
The translation could have been better, there are still german words around
with the language set to english.
And I wish the toolbar was more customizable.
Other than that, Freecommander is great.

There is no conflict between PD5 and Windows XP - PD5 crashes regularly for
me on both Win98 and Windows 2000. This is normal behaviour for PD5 - caused
because it is full of bugs. This is not just my opinion - I reported these
bugs to OnTrack (the previous owners of PD) and they said they did not
intend to fix them.

It crashes while viewing .ps files, it crashes because of memory leaks, it
crashes while searching (this bug is the most annoying), sometimes it
crashes for no apparent reason. Nevertheless, it is my favourite programme.
Very few programmes are unique, but PD5 has utility that is available in no
other application, free or pay.
