Wow .. thanks for all the response. Scintilla was the answer.

It came available in a package with some .DLLs, but it also came
in a self-contained single-file version needing no further .DLLs, etc.
The latter comprising all the necessary libraries internally, and
then compiled very tightly into a single small file.
It's wonderful!
