The Trinitron is the way to go. The "Trinitron Lines" has been played
up but in reality they cannot be seen.

Actually they are clearly visible on light-colored backgrounds, it's
just that after a while you tune them out.
A shadow mask CRT has a"dot" effect that is much worse.

One could argue with equal validity that a Trinitron has a "rectangle
effect" that is worse than anything that any CRT provides. The reality
is that you get artifacts on both, which is more objectionable depends
on what you are doing.

Just need to upgrade anyone got some recomendations ?

Thanks.

The support wires are very thin and only noticeable on a white background.
There are plenty of other monitor brands to choose from, but Trinitron tubes
produce some of the best and sharpest pictures you'll find.

So what Trinatron Monitor would you recommend ?

Sony, ?

Theirs a 22 inch Mitisibitshi Monitor i have my eye on :)

Once I setup 5 computers with 20" Trinitron style monitors and only one
really showed the wires. The one "lemon" even with adjustments showed the
support wires more than the other 4. I'd suggest buying local to make return
easier and if possible have the monitor setup to view before purchase. Your
concern is not unfounded. Not all invar mask, supports wires are noticeable
without hunting for them.
NEC - Mitsubishi make great monitors.

I have a Sony G400 (19"), the support wires are noticeable... but only when
I look for them. When somebody points them out you keep looking for them
and keep noticing them, but you get over that and then they aren't that
noticeable.

Picture quality is outstanding, my only niggle is that the convergance
adjustment seems to be at an angle to the screen (at an angle to the
vertical edge of pixels) resulting in a minor change from top to bottom...
but that really is being picky. I'm running 1600x1200@85Hz and text is
sharp, and despite the miniscule size of it, I get no eye strain whatsoever
and I spend a lot of time in front of it, often without breaks

The Mitsubishi (NEC?) displays were also very good at the time, and seem to
use the same support wires.

NEC1250 (22"). It's called Diamondtron on Mitsubishi tubes but is the
same technology used in Sony's Trinitron tubes.

If you want a* true* flatscreen then aperature grill (trinitron,
diamondtron) is the only way to go. Or LCD.

Now that is not quite true. Zenith was shipping *true* flatscreens long
before the first flatscreen Trinitron appeared.

I would recommend iiyama monitors. They use that same kind of technology
and have had no problems. The picture is crisp and clear and there are no
screen anamolies. The usual effect from monitors using a "tron" matrix is
there but that is expected. My cousin has a Sony 21" monitor and it is
affected the same way. Like others have stated, you will forget about it
then only notice it if someone points it out.

Was it really flat though? I have an older porfessional TV with a
Toshiba FST and it's not as flat as today'sTrinitron and Diamondtron
tubes. I've never seen a Shadowmask tube that is truely flat. Look in
the corners and you will see a slight curvature.

It was flat to the limits of whatever manufacturing tolerances Zenith
set. No "slight curvature" anywhere.

I remember those Zenith... it was State of the art back then.

This is to the OP, my newsreader has tossed out his post.

There isn't really much, if any 20" CRTs. They make 17, 19, 21 and
24" screens.

A good 19" screen is the SAMSUNG - is about $250~300 at Best buy, but
has a good MAX res of only 1280x1024. The higher end model (900) will
do 1600x1200 - whivh my old one did. if you're only interested in
1280x1024 - it will do it well. (it does 1600 in 60hz - ugh).

My Samsung is top end, and its the only one that has the METAL lines
your talking about... the lower end Samsung (very good still) have
Samsung tubes.

PS: My monitor does 2024x14xx res... waaay too small, but does show
it :)

i have a 22in multisync FE1250 (paid $230.00), it has the lines (not a
true trinatron, but the same technology). it has an awsome picture,
and lots of adjustments.

Try LG monitors, they're similar to Trinitron screens but have no horizontal
wires.

Mike

How similar ??

The same picture as a Tinatron or Dimondtron picture as flat as well
??

I just get discrtacted by little things i don't think i could stand
the lines, i saw them on a monitor at a PC fair and they were very
visible, though it was an old sony monitor i think, so they might have
got it better over the years.

Thanks.

They don't have any 20 inch monitors.

And the monitors they do have dont have a Max Res of 1600by1200 at
100hrtz.

Two things which are a mus for me.

Thanks anyway.
