One of us remains confused. I'm not sure which at this point.

You do not need a computer acting as a gateway if you have a router present.

there are hidden assumptions in that statement.

The *only* way to connect to the router is wirelessly.
There are three computers which need to connect to the router.
There is *one* wireless adapter (Asus WL-330g).

Hence, a gateway :)

WL-330g <--> gateway <--> switch <--> (other computers & stuff)

If everything were win2k it'd be possible to:

WL-330g <--> switch <--> (stuff)

however, the second option doesn't work in this case.
The WL-330g will only work in the second scenario if
everything is windows, which isn't the case.
(I thought that the WL-330g had more capabilities
than it does.)

Thus, the gateway. Yes?

thanks,

Thufir

Sorry, I'm resigning from this thread. One of us has a major
misunderstanding going on. Hopefully you figure it out.

Ok. Maybe this will help: there's no router present *physically*.

The router is only present via 802.11b. I think you're assuming that
the router is present (meaning physically accessible)?

What do you mean by "present?" The SMC7004VWBR router isn't physically
available, which is what I think you mean by "present."
