I read that it'll make XP even more of a resource hog.
~It doesn't. It also has some very nice security tricks. Lots of hidden
stuff too. Ability to control IE plugins such as toolbar enhancers etc
very nice.

When I installed SP1, my PC became a slug. If this is the "unslugger"
great. If not, screw 'em.

In all the years that I've used Microsoft Windows, they have *NEVER*
created a newer version that is faster than the previous one, even
though almost every time they claim something like "you'll be able to
do things faster than ever before." It's absolutely not in their
interest to speed things up. Probably because if they slow your
computer down, you'll be more inclined to buy a newer one with more
storage space that will hold more of their bloat. And there are other
reasons that they push hardware upgrades, for instance this new
BIOSless system that they're pushing for.

I.e., don't hold your breath.

They have pretty much refused to even admit that SP1 has delirious
effects on performance. When I talked to them they said RAM upgrade.

Hell, I already got 1MB.

Perhaps an old (circa 1981?) quote from Bill Gates occupied the mental-spaces
at that moment....

Heh. That's right. We aren't supposed to need any more than that.

I feel obliged to giggle on both counts
Only speaking as I find. THe default option in OE not to display
external HTML content in e-mails goes a long way as does the ability to
control addons/plugins/enhancements in IE plus the fact that when
something tries to install something in IE, i.e malware toolbar, a
popup window appears asking if you want to allow it.

Still, I guess you found all of that?

The original XP was faster, too fast for some software. MS purposely
slowed XP down to reduce complaints from software vendors. Thought
this was semi-common knowledge.

MSoft put an OS out that was too fast and the software boys/girls
didn't adjust before delivery?

LOL

Is there anywhere (credible) I can read about this? It seems bizarre.

What did I write? It appears to have been omitted.
