How did a thread about The National turn in to one about food?

I have never tried it, but don't think I could stomach eating Black Beauty and I am not French.:D

I was on a survival course many years ago when we got to eat various animals.
it was partly to show us that in the event of an emergency their was food out their!
as an ex-royal, bootneck would have thought you would have tasted a few exotic animals!

OK, if we're going to talk about food then I can say that I have eaten horse - many years ago in France. It seemed quite good to me. :)

I have also tried ostrich, kangaroo and crocodile. Croc was the most disappointing. I expected it to be a substantial, firm meat but it was soft and squidgy and not particularly pleasant.

I have also been offered guinea pig but turned it down as it was being served on a platter, as the whole animal, in a standing position, apparently looking straight at the person about to eat it.

Yes that was in the days when I was young and silly, and on the courses we had on survival were mainly based on Malayan Jungle as that is where we were fighting the comies, enjoyed snake though. Now I am old and decrepit I look for more simple things like beef, chicken, pork etc and something I personally don't have to kill to eat. I used to go out shooting but would not think now about going out to kill any living creature except for my own survival if I had to. Got old and soft I suppose. Much rather save life than kill it.;) P.S my misses has just come in and looked over my shoulder and made the comment that in supermarkets and fast food outlets where it says in the content "and other meats" it is probobly is horse. Wouldent know how much trouth is in that but she is a cheff so I suppose she might be right.
