It works if you put a backslash on the end of the directory
go to tools>download options>set default download directory

I don't see that as an option in K-M 0.8.2+

I see it in K-Meleon CCF 0.018PR5 though, which is an interesting
looking no install build.

Hmmmm :-) thx

Yep; I think it is miles better. I've never got on with Firefox. It
has always felt resource hungry to me and I never liked it enough to
find out why.

I don't really get on with FF, although I use it; (same with Thunderbird,
with that it's the **** folders, and no recepts, tho someone pu t me on to
messagetag, for which, thanks.)

But as for resources it's *miles* better than IE6, as a 98 user I keep a
constant eye on it, and FF never threatens to crash me.

But I'm certainly going to try K-m when I get an hour or two to download
(it might be fast today, lots of rain, the string will be wet)

I'm a big FF fan -- used it as my default for almost a year now -- but
this thread got me to give K-Meleon a try (the 0.9b beta). I tried an
early version of K-Meleon, but at that point it was way too basic for
my taste.

I must say it's incredibly impressive, and I'm seriously thinking of
running it as a default for a while to see how it goes -- well worth a
try.

You never considered getting a real ISP?

Always keep tight hold of Nurse
for fear of finding something worse.

And I've got surftime, which meets my needs. If I change I might mess up
my ornery telephone needs, which come from talk talk.

I've asked BT questions about their new offers, but they don't answer.

The Wechselbalg version crashed my computer thoroughly, twice, and gave
me an extra quicklaunch bar that I hope is going to go away - I don't
want yet another reboot tonight.

So I tried the official 8.2 which seems ok, but I'll have to see how it
goes compared to f/f

No problem with downloads at all, using either the internal downloader
or LeechGet, which integrates well.

Serious problems using WinGet. I'll give LeechGet a try.

I guessed correctly before googling it :-)

Basic line rental is 10 quid a month if DD; this gives 6p p h off peak
national calls
AOL gives 24/7 dial up for 16 quid a month which is portable and
disgustingly reliable with no cut offs ever and very rare engaged
tones. Constant speeds.
Crap newsserver... but you're used to that. So you buy one off Clara
for 30 quid a year which gives you 10GB of binaries a month too with
real completion.
(Does BTi still hide the porn from the all groups list?)

Odd. It's been crashing here tonight, but that is almost certainly a
software conflict with WinGet. Are your specs worse than my 300mhz
98SE with 128 MB RAM?

I found it disgustingly stable, but geekier to tweak than I want.

The beta 9s are better than the any prior versions!

Why?

I like the look of K-Meleon CCF 0.018PR5 which is an 0.9, yes?

But it feels slightly bloatier than the "Wechselbalg" build which is
important on this low resource system.

I had a look at latest testbuild, 0.9 beta4, available here:

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=20260&t=20260

also, but it is an install version and I don't want to go there atm. I
tried installing it on a seperate partition and copy/pasting the dir
somewhere else and it wouldn't work...

I don't suppose there is a no install version of this lying about
anywhere? I installed this on the XP partition just to see if it could
move. It can't. And I have an install build and a no install on this
98SE partiton and don't want to complicate things. (further)

Excellent. Many thx, led me straight to the solution.

Happy now. :-)

"Cause I said so, that is why, now run right out and try one

Speed, Configurability, yada yada. Didn't you read?

Don't you believe?

What are your system specs?

If they are around 98SE, 300mhz, 128MB RAM, I will happily do the
'believe' thing.

If you are running XP2, 3ghz, 1GB RAM, I believe nada nada. :-)

We have the same specs jo, and like I said before the 0.9beta versions
rock. Like you, I had problems with winget, and changed back to
Stardownloader, which doesn't have problems with K-Meleon. (and I like the
fact that it can be set to download something to my default directory
without showing itself, except for an icon in the systray)
For a no-install, and other questions, you better post in the forums, very
helpful regulars there.
