If any of you gents need an instant fix for "sandpapery-rough" hands... Into clean hands, pour some olive oil, (or whatever cooking oil you happen to have) into your palm. Immediately add two or three teaspoonfuls of granulated sugar.
Vigorously rub this mixture into your hands, all over; palms, backs, between fingers... it will obviously feel unpleasantly gritty, but try to do it for a minute or two. Finally, wash off the oily mix with mild soap and warm water.
Hands should now feel like the proverbial baby's bottom.
(You can still use your Dove or Neutrogena, etc., but doing the above first, will help if the wee handies are feeling very dry and rough."

Some old remedies still work pretty wellI can remember my Mum telling me that, only she used butter or marge with the sugar. My GP told me that all moisturisers do basically one thing - stop your natural moisture escaping. The cream simply provides a temporary seal which more or less allows a person to self heal.
He prescribed me a huge tub of a basic mosituriser named 'Diprobase' which works wonders on me plates of meat but not so much me mitts, so I'm not totally convinced.
So, gentlemen, what we swapping next? Knitting patterns? Crochet hints?
