JPEG vs. GIF

I would say it's an "assumption", not an assertion ;-)

And, I would love to see KatWoman's cite or documentation to back up this
"assertion"

| I would take issue with this assertion.

you are hereby invited to the Photoshop newsgroups which is my source for
that info
alt.graphics.Photoshop
comp.graphics.apps.Photoshop

I see posts to that effect every week

As I said I do not use Irfranview, never had the need for it
But if otherwise intelligent, knowledgeable PS users recommend it so highly
and in many cases feel it does some tasks BETTER than PS, how bad can it be?
You all got something against FREE software? you own stock in MS?

I use free software. I have no stock in MS. And you are extremely
condescending.

And you are <plonked>

I just want to say:
IrfanView is great .

It does the job well and quickly
I use it to prepare all images for the 'net

The only alternative image editors I have available are Microsoft Picture
It! and Adobe PhotoShop Elements. Oh and JAlbum but that's free also ;-)

You all got something against FREE software? you own stock in MS?

Not me. In fact, I never said anything negative about any specific software
product in this thread. However, oddly enough, you responded to me as if I
had somehow made some sort of argument against you, or perhaps against your
favorite freeware, which I have never tried, have no knowledge of, and care
nothing about. And I was not aware that Adobe Photoshop was a Microsoft
product. I must admit, I have toyed with the idea of purchasing stock in
Microsoft from time to time. Perhaps if they acquire Adobe I will.
