Intermittent PC lock up

You want us to wander through reams of useless, previously
read material to find one new sentence?

Thread continuity just flies right on over your lil head too I bet.
How shortsighted.
You were even taught in school that all past reference
material and bibliography go at end.

Free cl00, Dipshit, Usenet isn't some English term paper, you're trying to draw comparisons where
there simply are none.
Please show one
professional paper written foolishly as you recommend. Old
material at end so that, on a rare occasion, we can reference
what we already knew - what was previously read. We don't
need to read many previously read posts. We need the new
stuff first.

Wrong, Dipshit. The idea is to put the new material at the bottom in order to maintain thread
continuity. You notice the lil >'s, yeah, see it's like an outline form (the more replies the
easier it is to see). That way you can split apart large messages and reply to certain segments
while leaving other segments intact. And future posters can follow up in the same manner. This is
also good because sometimes posts get poorly propagated and that way even if a person misses half a
dozen posts they can still easily reconstruct the missing conversation.
Top posters are clearly superior people.

All top posters are newbies and idiots...mostly newbies.
They are tolerant of the foolish bottom posters - whose posts even make google
searches difficult.

How would they make Google searches difficult? I mean unless you're just so God damn stupid and
lazy that you haven't figured out what the scroll wheel and the page down button are...yeah.
Top posters don't routinely criticize the
intolerant,

Top posters are in no position to be criticizing anything.
bottom posters for making posts difficult to read,

Teh scroll wheel is teh HARD, yo! ROTFL...yeah, let's go and ****up thread continuity just cause
some ****in dumbass newbies can't find the bother to scroll.
to locate, and who are so immature as to criticize.

This isn't criticizing, it's beating you over your head with your own stupidity.
Normally I just ignore those farcical and insulting bottom
posts as unfortunately difficult to read. Tolerance of those
who would even bottom post. But your discourteous nature is
so pathetic as to even post four letter indecency.

Oh look, some right wing Christian ****up who was psychologically BEATEN as a child to feel dirty
every time he hears the word ****. ^_^
Criticism of this intolerant bottom poster is justified and necessary.

Son, you have no ****ing CL00 as to what you're getting yourself into.
Please learn to post with respect.

RESPECT!? You dare come here, on Usenet, top posting and you have the audacity to start preaching
RESPECT?! I'm sure to some hapless ****ing retard like you whose father was a free range GOAT and
whose mother couldn't handle a CLOTHES HANGER, Usenet was invented just yesterday all for your
dumbass...really though, Usenet has been around for DECADES, I know, I've been here. And even if
there were no OBVIOUS (except to you) reasons as to why only an IDIOT would top post, it would still
stand to reason that you wouldn't do it simply out of respect for the traditions and culture of
Usenet. You DISRESPECT Usenet, Newbie. `, \
Top post using only civil words - or just remain quiet.

I'm going to enjoy breaking you, N00bjob.
If so intolerant, then stew in
your own juices. We need not hear your intolerant tirades.

I like it when sheeple refer to themselves as "we".
Even more insulting is to wade through reams of old and
previous posts only to find that Onideus Mad Hatter has again
posted so many irrelevant four letter words. Typical response
of a few bottom posters.

Maybe you should ask the nice man HOLDING THE ****ING GUN TO YOUR FAT UGLY STUPID HEAD, FORCING YOU
TO READ MY EVERY POST...to you know...stop. God damn stupid ****ing newbies, every last one of them
has no idea what they're doing. Here, have a free cl00, on Usenet, people don't hold back. No one
around here is going to take the bother to cater to your stupidity nor are they going to hold your
hand and coddle you. Your "feelings" here are as inconsequential as the shit I just took. That's
the nature of Usenet. If you don't like it, you can get the **** off...or you can BITCH...pick one.

... but of course.

Clearly that is supposed to be representative of bottom posters in
general. With all that damning evidence it's perfectly clear, we should
just burn all bottom-posters at the stake!

There are some topics that are a waste of time to discuss with someone who
can't even distinguish between a troll and millions of other usenet
participants.

Did you think you could effectively insult someone after doing nothing to
prove yourself more than a loon?

LOL, little hitlers!

I nominate you to be the alt.comp.hardware Jester.

I second!

I accept your comments about the hatter, I found his first (well
a couple of them actually) post to me rather abusive however thats
just some peoples way and it doesn't bother me really.

WRONG! That's the nature of Usenet, Newbie. You don't get it, do you? People on Uesnet...most of
them are not going to bother "sparing your feelings". They're gonna be eight shades of ass
blistering reality and they're just gonna start slamming the **** out of you. There are countless
reasons as to why. Tradition, UPA, it breeds competition, etc, etc, etc. If you can't handle it,
it's because you take Usenet too seriously. And if that's the case, boy I gotta tell ya, you are
going to wind up SEVERELY ****ed up in the head.
I think what people have to say is more important than how they
said it and what he said sounded pretty logical to me, although it
remains to be seen whether he was correct or not.

There are always varying degrees of "correctness"...especially regarding free tech support online
with only a n00b job on the other end to describe the problem.
I don't judge books by the cover, well not unless I have read the
first chapter I guess ;O)

My "book" is far more than anyone could ever read.
Bottom posting may be the accepted 'norm' but it usually how
inexperienced posters post I find. I found top posting rather unusual
at first but I soon realised the great benefits of it.

*shakes head*

Wrong. Top posting is what newbies do. Newbies do it because it's easier for them. Easier in the
sense that they find it difficult to scroll. Either they have trouble moving the lil wheel on the
mouse or they can't be arsed to press the "page down" key....or they can't find it...or they don't
even know it exists.

There are specific reasons to bottom post, the most important being thread continuity. If you want
to argue top posting you're essentially wanting to argue changing the nature of the way we do
outlines. Now tell me, why on earth would you make an outline backwards? If you can answer me that
question I *might* be inclined to think of you as something other than just a hapless ****in moron.

Its not 'this topic' again. Big difference. Top posting
verse bottom posting is only peripheral. Onideus Mad Hatter
violates multiple principles.

And whose "principles" would those be? The ones you so stupidly took from the REAL WORLD and tried
like an idiot to push here on Usenet? Free cl00, Dipshit, this ain't the real world, this is
Usenet, and it is YOU who is "violating multiple principles".
First he criticizes because he
perfered an inferior posting method - his intolerance.

Apparently Tom writes all his Outlines BACKWARDS! The rest of us are just intolerant and stupid for
doing it the right way. Tom likes to do other things backwards to...like walking...and
writing...sometimes he even SHITS backwards...in fact pretty much whenever he opens his mouth.
Second, his repeated use of useless, irelevant and indecent,
four letter words.

Tom is all like, "OMG WTF I HERD TEH F WERD I KANTS TO NOT BE GOIN TO HELL!!1!"

Every time Tom hears the word **** he feels dirty all over...because he was beaten as a child to
feel that way. Tom is a product of right wing ultra conservative Christian social engineering
****wittery.
Third, he uses those words to insult others.

Hey, have another free cl00, if you find anything I've said, even if it was said to you,
insulting...yeah, that's on you. *I* can't MAKE you feel ANYTHING. And for me, this is all just in
good fun, it's play.
No wonder he would demand that others do silly bottom
posts. The discussion is not about top verse bottom posting.
The post is about the character and intent of Onideus Mad
Hatter -

The intent of Onideus Mad Hatter...*snicker*...what are you afraid I'm gonna obliterate your lil
froup? You've been reading too many Google posts, Halfass. While it's true that many would
consider me to be one of, if not the very best troll on the entire whole of Usenet...that's not what
I'm doing here. In fact, if anything, your actions are more troll like than my own...although
you're pretty sloppy for a troll, which leads me to believe that you're just an idiot.
a discussion that would never happen if he had just
learned to be tolerant and silent.

Yes, let's all be good nonthinking Christian sheeple, silent and accepting of anything that we get
hit in the head with. Are you feeling dirty again, Tom? No? ****! `, )
Then his language would not have become a discussion issue.

Well you know you can ALWAYS stop reading my posts...wait, no, no you can't, can you? Stupid
****ing morons are like that, they don't actually do things they enjoy, rather they do things they
DON'T enjoy...masochism...stupidity....whose really to say what the cause is.
Even if you don't care - top verse bottom posting - the
language and insults from Onideus Mad Hatter are the issue.

The real issue here is why you're a kook....let's ask the kookologists over in AUK if they have an
explanation.

AUK...meet Tom! Tom...meet AUK!

Here's a strange thing....Just in the name of science (and to rule out
heat as the problem)...I borrowed an Office fan and took the side of
my pc off and sat the fan facing it on a moderate speed....

I was then working on the Desktop when the Pc rebooted, it loaded
windows again and after 2 mins it rebooted again...then it got half
way thru loading Win2k it rebooted and never got to desktop until I
took the fan away and let the pc warm up again....it took another 8
reboots (automatic) before fully loading again....

As usual.....and ideas welcome.!

LOL things never turn out as you expect them to do they!!
But at least you appear to have found a way of making the
problem more predictable and consistant so it should be
easier to solve. (I am not to sure how though).

Some thing to consider.
1) Does making the PC cooler make the problem worse?
2) Could the fan be making part of the PC *warmer* by
working *against* the other fans in the PC?
(I would suggest using a hairdryer(on cold) against some
of the fans to investigate)
3) Is the fan blowing dust or dirt around or into the PC
causing a short circuit somewhere.
4) Cooling causes metal conductors(wires) to shrink and
could make a bad cable worse. The same might go for
poorly seated connectors.
5) The airflow could aslo move frayed cables causing a break.
6) The air flow could change the voltage on 'dry joint'
(unconnected pin) as the air flow could increase or decrease
the charge on a pin quicker.

I would test the effects of a different fan speed and possibly
using a fan heater (but be careful not tomake the air too warm
as that might cause futher damage).
Maybe you could use a hair dryer to be more selective
with the air flow? They usually have several setting I imagine.

They would also be useful for blowing away dirt, unfortunately
I don't have one!( I have some debris inside the mobo).

What you really need is another computer so you can swop
parts around. Cables and mother boards would be a good starting point.

Because he has tried a different HD you can rule out viruses and spamware
you would have to be as mad as hatter not to.
Unless the other drive contained the same software the problem cannot be
software, changing the drive and not clearing the problem proves it is a
hardware
problem.

WRONG!

Read up on ESCD, Sunshine...then feel like an idiot. ^_^

LOL. Your style is a welcome change Mr Hatter.

Tech support is a LOT more fun when you get to actually tell the n00b jobs what you feel about them.
After all, you can't get fired from a newsgroup by telling some guy to pack up his computer, take it
back where he bought it and to tell them that he's too ****in stupid to own one. ^_^

Being helpful is good, but there's no real good reason as to why you have to read like stereo
instructions when you do it.

Did you measure those voltages? If not, then all this
swapping is equivalent to spitting in the wind. How many
posters here were even designing, building, and diagnoising
power supplies 30 years ago. Wisdom on where to begin was in
that simple procedure using the 3.5 digit multimeter.
Appreciate how complicated you have now made this solution.

Did you run the manufacturer comprehensive diagnostics? And
then run them by selectively heating hardware? Should you
want to solve the problem, well, provided were 'laser beam'
solutions. Did you perform any of them or just wildly
shotgun. If your car mechanic did shotgunning, then you would
be mad. You should have known long ago what your problem is
using those previously posted procedures.

Cheers for that Half Pint...I have since tried different fan speeeds,
this beasts got 3, I also tried moving the fan slowly further away
from the open tower after each crash...I also forgot to say that the
fan causes a different fault...when the pc is cold (as in, being off
all night) when booted it reboots almost instantly..and keeps
rebooting for about 10-12 times, each boot getting a little further
into windows, until a certain temp is reached, then it'll run for
ever....until the dreaded
beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep noise and the pc locks
instantly...and the beep which ever note media player was playing at
the time

I also tried to leave the side off the pc, but with no fan at all...I
had 2 windows open at the time and the was a very slight draft...and
after about 20 minutes the pc must have got too cold, and it powered
off instantly and booted up again...I then put the panel back in again
to keep the heat in a little...

It seems the pc doesnt like being below 42 degrees (CPU), and 34 for
the MBoard.

Hope that fills in some blanks.!

How would the fan cause the problem as the machine would be cold

Thanks again Half-Pint. I'm sure I've tried a Windows Update for newer
drivers, I'll also try the Ati's site...The lock up does also happen
whilst playing mp3, I tried turning the Visualisation off in Media
Player just to tone down the demmand in graphics and it still
happens...

I tried changing the Voltage Core of the CPU to 1.75, it was set at
default..I read a post where a guy's "Default" was too low for his
Athlon Cpu, but mine still locks...

I'm not sure what Voltage is the correct amount...so Shot Gunning is
the only way for me...failing everything I can always built another PC
out of the parts I have bought over the last few months.!!!!

Keep posting those ideas! I'm off to get a power supply today, I'll

it locked again..Ahh!!!!
