installing a new computer

I bought a motherboard (ASUS), Hdd (MAXTOR SATA), memory to build a new
computer.

I am in touch with Maxtor who say I have to put the XP first and the system
will ask for me to press F6. The problem is it doesn't want to read the CD
(XP), nor the motherboard CD, nor the floppy with HDD drivers. But they don't
all seem to agree on what to do first...

Could you give me any hint of what I have to do?
