inserting hyperlink defaults to C drive

IN Frontpage 2003, only on my main page which is a frame page in the
index.html page, wwhenever I insert a hyperlink and the address window
appears beneath the folders or files list, it defaults to my C drive location
of my local site. I then have to delete that and type in the URL for my web
site.

However on the other pages in the web folder, this does not happen and when
I insert a hyperlink, the address begins with .../// followed by the
appropriate file and extension.

It almost sounds like you're putting in the hyperlinks before you save the
page within the web, but I'm sure that's not the issue since it's the index
page. When you insert the hyperlink, are you browsing to the page you are
linking to? Are they all within an existing web?

I have same problem on index.htm of my site. Whether its images or links,
even if i correct them they sometimes are reverting to my C drive web
location after publishing. Will be researching and will post back if I find
the solution. Ed

Do you actually have a web open before you open a page to insert your
content?

Sorry I jumped in on this but if I may: www.unitedfence.com has same issue.
Green Phone Number bar reverts back to hard drive directory when publishing.
when i change to direct url my othe images change to c drive location. Is
there a way to restructure the index page as all other pages seem to work
and acept images - links ok. Also does the index page need to be htm or
html?

1) You must have a web open before you can work on a page. You can't just
have a page open.

2) You must "File | Import" images into your web *before* insert on a page
and saving.

Yes, Site is open, All files are imported. I even drag file from left window
to page and it shows fine, when I click picture properties it shows
/images/comm.jpg but when published it adds the file///c: harddrive root to
image name.

May have fixed but dont know what happened to create problem or fix it but
did the help/detect & repair thing and now seems to work automatically.
Maybe give it a try John, Thanks, Ed

You need to save the page before you check the links.

Repaired program. Ed

Yes thank you. But not sure what fixed it or why the files after upload
thought they needed to refer back to my hard drive only on the index page.
Something must have been currupted?

Ed,

I've tried all the suggestions from Tom and others, without any success.
Inserting hyperlinks still reverts back to the folders on the C drive instead
os a relative URL that looks lkie ...?? /path/file name

Ed at www.unitedfence.com, This is John (John & Sririt), my web hosting
service requires that the index page be (file name) .html.

I've tried all the suggestions from this post, but the same probelm still
persists. I may recreate my entire index.html and publish it again. It's a
huge project, not sure when I'll get to it but if I do, I'll post if that
solves the problem.

Tom,

John here -

I've done all of that, but like Ed, the same problem persists. When I click
"insert hyperlink" instead of seeing the relative url (...//path/file name) I
see C:/folder/filename on C drive. I have to delete that up to the path and
file name of the insert and replace it with the protocol and web server
followed by path and filename. No idea why this is happening. Any thoughts.
Thank you. John (John & Spirit)

Ed, I did the detect and repair, it helps for one or two times, then the
same problem occurs. - J

Hyperlinks Cannot Keep Address Straight Problem Corrected.

The fix...

I found a web page that inserted the hyperlinks properly. I save that page
under a different name. I copied and pasted my index.html page into this
saved page and saved it.

Then I opened it and saved it as "index.html". It told me that the page
already existed and asked if I wanted to replace it. I said yes. The page was
replaced and now is working properly with the insert hyperlink command. It
now puts the relative URL's (...//path/file name) into the address box. I
hope this helps Terri, Ed and Tom. Thank you all so much for your discussions.

When you look at the folder holding your web content in FP's Open Web / Site dialog, does it have a
globe on it?
