I accidentally poked myself with a needle with canon compatible photo balck ink.
What is this stuff made of anyway? Should I be concerned?

Yes. Mostly about the degree of carelessness which may indicate a deeper
infirmity, whether drug induced or not.

Germs on the needle may be present; watch for infection.

I would say for sure, there won't be any concern about yourself. Just a
small injury in your body (hand?), almost nothing else.

Nice try, Measekite . . .

If you want to be offical... you should request a MSDS (Material Safty
Data Sheet) from the people who sold you the ink.

Here is an example
http://www.lexmark.com/pdf/msds/en/inkjet/10N0016.pdf

You are asking a question regarding an unnamed product, but the rule of
thumb is to wash with soap and water, if you have any symptoms see a
doctor. This would include among others dizzyness, headaches,
diarrhea, shortness of breath, bluish skin and lips, skin irratation.
On a scale of 0 to 4 ink typicaly is a 1, Slight health risk... on par
with window cleaner. Typicaly won't kill you if you drink a pint but
will give you diarrhea and make you feel horrible.

What kind of freakin needle are you using anyway?
Frank

The needles that come in the refill kits have blunt ends. I've used medical
luer-lock needles but used a whet stone to blunt them to avoid this sort of
problem.

Only if you report back that it was the best high you ever had. Aftermarket
inks will then end up costing us more than OEM.

Ed, I've used blunt end needles to refill my carts for years. I would
literally have to purposefully stab myself with tremendous force with
one in order to penetrate even the first layer of my epidermises.
Again my question...what kind of needle is this guy using?

OK. I'll be refilling when my first cart is low.

A kit I bought about a year ago that consisted of 4 medical syringes,
4 *VERY* sharp needles that screwed into them, and 5 bottles of ink (2
blk + the 3 usual colours). The syringes were the size you'd expect
hospitals use to inject drugs into IV bags, and every bit as sharp as
you'd expect medical syringes to be. There were enough warnings that
I wasn't surprised at the sharpness, but I was very surprised that
anyone would assemble such a refill kit for sale, given these
lawyer-happy days.

To the original Poster: If you want to cover all your bases, in
addition to whatever you've already done for first aid, getting a
tetanus shot wouldn't be a bad idea.

Hey, are you still looking for lots of printing to do? Forget the iPOD, that is
just a diversion.
I still have the big truck with a tiger on the side (looking for a troll meal
but not urgently because it is quite well fed if the truth be known!).
All I need is your address and it will arrive with 4 pallets of paper and a
couple of DVD's full of data for printing.
I guess not, but keep up the good work and let me know if you change your mind.

Interesting question. My cousin who signs his posts "Joe's undertakers. We can
wait" sends his regards.

I eat my peas with honey.
I've done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny.
But it keeps them on my knife.

Come on guys! I'm not measekite! Anyway I think I just scratched the skin and no
blood came out. And I'm still here kicking. After months of refilling and
printing like crazy (now at 34858 pages according to EEPROM print) I think my
workhorse Canon ip4000 has bought it. :(

I have bought about 3 canon carts and 5-6 oem carts and the rest have been
printed with oem ink & refilling.

When I turn it on I starts blinking orange and won't print anymore (sometimes I
get one page)

But a lovely diversion! And please don't insult my INOi, Tony - it's
not an "iPOD". iPODs are overpriced (don't know if they're overrated).
Mine's an "aftermarket" model (an INOi 20GB) like my inks!

The troll's run out of gas and insults (down to a dozen or so posts per
day from around 100 a few weeks back). He couldn't break my freedom of
choice for inks.

Four pallets? (Gulp!) That'll cost me at least $100 in aftermarket ink
to print, or $1,000,000 if I used OEM inks.
I guess not, but keep up the good work and let me know if you change your mind.
Tony

Thanks but I'll stick with my music interests for the time being and
just counter post Measekite once in a while for diversion, to keep him
in check and "honest" about what he posts.

All things in moderation EXCEPT hugs and humor.

Just to clarify, when we talk about "OEM" cartridges, the term usually
refers to the official cartridges from the printer manufacturer (in
this case Canon). The cartridges and inks from other sources are
referred to as "3rd party" products.

If you actually meant it as written, how did you manage to score some
official Canon ink without the cartridges?
