I'm using boardband, is there any software to ensure better performance?

Greetings...

Well, I really no longer trust this TCPOptimizer program...

All day long, windows has been VERY flaky on bootup.. About half the time it will boot to
BSODs 3 or 4 times in a row, and for some strange reason, only a LOGGED bootup from the
boot menu (selection 2) will actually get me into windows. The other half of the time,
when it would boot normally, it would take about 2 minutes to boot.

So I told the program to restore my original settings which I recorded this morning, it
asked if I wanted to apply the settings - I said yes - CRASH - couldn't shut down the
system for all the BSODs, again had to use the power button on the case...

Windows boots normally and stable again... Back down to a 21 second boot time.

Started up the program again to see what it says my settings are now, and it lies,
giving the optimized settings... Went to the analyzer page and IT confirms that my
settings are back to normal. Double checked in regedit...

So this thing is going in the waste basket - I don't deal well with software that lies
to me....

Note that I'm working with an almost absolutely clean win98se install with all ms
updates. I reinstalled clean last wednesday. Regcleaner finds only 3 stray entries - and
those are file names are from winzip..

Spybot finds nothing, AVG finds nothing, as they shouldn't...

I prefer a stable fast boot and a slightly slower download speed to a hopped up unstable
system that crashes on boot half the time...

So I'd put this one in the "Use it at risk" category...

Maybe when I get a more modern machine running XP I'll give it another try....

Thanx for all your help Wayne! It was an enjoyable adventure ride anyway, and I
learned a few things...

You figure it out...

Windows 98 will save the last 5 days of your registry try running
Scanreg restore

Nice call Scrapps, I was just about to suggest that. Definitely restore
yesterdays registry. That should get rid of any problems associated with
registry changes. Make sure on the boot menu, you select "Command prompt
only" Should be your last selection on the list. Follow the rest from
the page that Scrapps gave.

Sorry TCP/IP Optimizer did not work for you.

Get your machine up and running like it was before this sleigh ride began
and you can tweak another day :-)

Yea, I ended up doing exactly that - restoring to 4 days ago. All seems to be better
now...

Windows was doing really weird things even after I restored the default settings. About
half the time, it would BSOD with errors in the VTCP , it would spontaneously reboot if
network traffic got very high.. Even when it would load if I installed or uninstalled
ANYTHING I would get all kinds of errors on bootup...

All windows updates were successfully installed, and no, I wasn't missing any Network
updates...

I think that the program just isn't safe for Win9x machines... At least ones as old as
mine... My guess is that the programmer is taking a few liberties with the coding...

Yea, it was a fun ride... I was serving files like crazy there for a while! I think I
actually peaked at about 1.6 Mbs outgoing...

Anyway, All seems back to normal, though I will have to reinstall some software - No
sweat i kind of expected that anyway...

One of the most enjoyable adventures I've had on USENET in years, thanx again...
