Maybe that's one of the other differences between sodipodi & inkscape... ;-)

Hi Jan,

I'm sorry, but I only installed Sodipodi because I had already noticed
that Inkscape also doesn't support export to vector formats.

My Google-search only points me to payware-packages (CorelDRAW and
Illustrator) that are able to export SVG to an other vector file
format. Still no luck on freeware-ones. I only noticed a 'to-do'action
on the Inkscape site, but nobody volunteered to write something for
that.

With kind regards,

In the Sodipodi that I have on my computer, and according to the site
it is the latest version, the export command gives me only a PNG
export, and the Save As option gives me only a SVG option.

I'm wondering, are there any freeware applications that can save a SVG
file in an other vector format (WMF. CDR, CMX)? Didn't find anything
usuable through Google.

I tried Google too, and found that the first link (www.w3.org) indeed
didn't help, although it was a huge link collection of SVG-related
tools. There are lots of programs that convert all kinds of formats into
SVG, but not back. Weird.

But browsing the various links, I found another vector drawing program,
which can save in WMF/EMF, SVG and the proprietary EVE format

http://www.goosee.com/

Maybe it is good enough for what you need, that is if you don't need any
undo (how did *that* happen?)

Or maybe
http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/serif/dp/dp4/index.asp
is something for you. It is registerware though, which some might
consider not being *proper* freeware.

Sorry that I couldn't help with anything better.

I have Drawplus 6 and that won't let me import svg, let alone export it out
as anything else, so I doubt an older version will support it. I just
ordered Drawplus 7 today actually, but thats another story! I tried Eve too
but I think only the pay version called Eve Web Edition supports svg,
because those options are greyed out in the standard version.

You might want to have a look at pstoedit:

http://www.pstoedit.net/pstoedit

It's mostly freeware, there are some plugins (EMF, SVG, ...) that
are shareware, though.

Thanks Gabrielle and Dan. I already tried Zoner Draw 3 and DrawPlus 5
but I got no results. Didn't try EVE, but according the findings of
Dan, I don't think I have to try that one too. Besides from Importing
and Exporting the SVG format, I'm still wondering why copy and paste
doesn't work here. Because I have no problems with that using Zoner
Draw and DrawPlus, I guess that this problem is with Inkscape/Sodopodi.

Hi Cousin Stanley,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I have no problems in opening,
importing and/or exporting WMF files. My problem is that there seems to
be no (freeware) possibility to export SVG files to WMF files. Also
copying and pasting the file doesn't work.

Thanks Wald for your suggestion. I haven't seen this, but does this
program really import SVG and export it to WMF?

Nope, it converts PostScript or Encapsulated Postscript to a variety
of formats, including WMF. But since Inkscape can export to PS/EPS,
I thought it was worth the mention.

Kind regards,
Wald

Some folks mentioned that possibility in here, but I didn't find that
in Inkscape. But maybe I overlooked that one. I'll give it an other
try. Thanks.

Yes, that works. Save the file as Filename.ps, and you can import it
into CorelDRAW and convert it to WMF. Perhaps the Pstoedit program you
mentioned does the same thing, but since I have a legal copy of
CorelDRAW, I prefer this one. Thanks for your suggestion.

Have a look at Skencil then:
<http://www.nongnu.org/skencil/>

It's a vector drawing program, and seems to have SVG import & EPS export
plugins? There's a "Windows download" on the "Developers" page. It needs
Python (it's written in Python) + several extra Python packages. I didn't
try it myself yet.

I hope it isn't that peculiar then, as my python solitaire is, at
startup. It opens a command line window to process the scripts, and then
I get about 200 lines of error messages before it loads and runs. It
didn't crash while I played with it, but the console/command line box
with these "error in line soandso" messages is a bit disturbing.

How do you have to start it?
With an *.exe, a batch file or directly with a *.py script?

It is an icon that has the command %mypathtogame%\pysol.py; and the
python base had to be put into the set path options (for Windows 98). I
have Python 2.3.4 installed.

I have Python 2.3.4 installed.

Rename that pysol.py to pysol.pyw and the console window should not
appear anymore.

python.exe runs within a console window.
pythonw.exe runs without a console window.
