Where I go ?

What kind of work ? VS 2005 and later comes with a built in test server that should be enough to develop...

What do you mean it asks you to go to the internet? As soon as you
press F5 of Ctrl+F5 to run the site it should start the ASP.Net test
server and open up the site in your default browser. Is yours doing
something different?

Thanks,

I think that most would tell you to go purchase XP Pro that comes with IIS.

I wouldn't.

If the OP is just trying to use IIS to test his application he should
just use the test server that comes with VS 2005 or VWD 2005. And if
the OP wants IIS inorder to use XP as an actually webserver this seems
more foolish as IIRC XP Pro can only support 10 concurrent users. So
it seems much smarter to me to not spend $300 on upgrading your OS
when you he should already have the testing functionality.

Thanks,

Most would and they are going to do the right thing for the most part.

This is something you're assuming, right?

To have a workstation O/S such as XP face the Internet exposing a Web server
such as IIS or any other Web server software, along with the NT based O/S
is foolish.

That's up to the OP to decide what he or she needs, not you or I.

Look at it this way, if the OP didn't want a Web server such as IIS, then he
wouldn't be asking about it.

IMO this is because "work offline" is checked in your IE menu, so IE is not supposed to connect to a site but to only retrieve pages from its cache.

Just uncheck this or tell IE he can go "on the internet". Actually it won't go to the internet (you may have to check your connection tab or swithc off your modem if you are really afraid to pay for your connection). It will then go to http://localhost/ which is the test web site on your local computer.

As a side note, it's generally best to ask about the original problem rather than on a solution you came up with so that one could suggest another better solution to the real problem you have rather than to help with a less easy workaround..

AFAIK , you cannot install IIS without performing ilegal hacks on the operating system

However Cassini will run on Windows XP home as the Internall VS2005 preview and the previous VS2003 webdeveloper tools are cassini based you should not have a problem .

I strongly recomend you to use at least Windows XP pro for development purposes

Most would and they are going to do the right thing for the most part.

Don't confuse me with the advocates of hacking XP home - I said to use
the test server that ships with VWD and VS for testing.
This is something you're assuming, right?

My response was saying it is unneccessary to upgrade to XP Pro for IIS
in order to test his website - this is from his statement "Each time I
create Web site, and test it the program ask me to go to internet" -
so I don't think I was assuming much...
That's up to the OP to decide what he or she needs, not you or I.

I did nothing more than point out an option that was different than
the one you suggested, so as far as I can tell, I am no more guilty
than you of decided what the OP needs.
Look at it this way, if the OP didn't want a Web server such as IIS, then he
wouldn't be asking about it.

Again, judging by the OP's second post, it seems he was asking about
IIS in error. And at no time did I say he shouldn't use IIS as a web
server - I just said he didn't need it for testing if he's using
VS2005 or VWD2005 for development.

Please read my posts a little better next time before attacking my
suggestions.

Thanks,

Seth Rowe

I didn't ask for the suggestion, and you should post to the OP about your
suggestion and not to me about it, because the reality about the whole
situation is I don't care.

You posted saying "I think that most would tell you to go purchase XP

gave my reasons. This was the reason I responded to your post and not
the OP.

All I'm asking is that you actually take the time to read my posts and
quit inferring things incorrectly.

Who cares?

What do you want me to do? Should I hand you a tissue, since you seem to be
in whine mode?

I mind my own business and post to the OP that's it. And I am going to be
blunt about it. You don't mean anything to me, and this is much to do about
*nothing*.

On that note, doesn't VS2005 come with a development-and-test licence
version of Windows Server 2003?

My VS2003 Professional did, but that may have been because it was the last
edition before VS2005 was released.

I think my statement you quoted explains what I want - I do not like
being libeled and simply asked you to be more careful next time. If I
accussed you incorrectly of advocating illegal hacks and you corrected
me, I would offer my apologizies to you. One would think you would do
the same...

Yes sir master rowe_newsgroups -- yes sir, and I'll get it done for you
straight way, count on it master rowe_newsgroups -- yes sir. :)

Now, is it possible for you to stop harassing me?

About time someone spoke to me properly!

You just had to add that didn't you? For the record, I tried to handle
this in a profession way, just wanting an apology for your allegations
- so I don't see how I was "harassing" you.

Thanks,

I'll book you on Jerry Springer, because that's where you belong. You can
display your mental issues to the world, because don't kid yourself, you do
have some mental issues you need taken care of so that you can function.
Personally, I think you need to be locked-up. If you think I am going to
kiss your behind, you got another thing coming.

To Seth

I know you don't *need* anyone actually confirming your point of view Seth.
but for the record, your points have seemed perfectly reasonable and your
original comment(s) to the OP seemed relavent.

To Mr Arnold:-

As far as I can all Seth did was imagine (for he could do little else ) a
couple of possabilities for what the OP might have meant and solve them is
some suitable ways.

I think *most* people (is that the magic phrase that gets me in trouble :P)
who would be asking about trying to get IIS running on XP home (especially
in newsgroups relating to dotnet and VB) would be trying to do so in order
to test their webapps.

The suggestion of Casinii or VS2005's Testserver seems quite appropriate
and unless I'm missing a lot of posts, I don't think Seth was harrassing
you in any way.

Either way... My thanks to both of you... I found this thread very amusing :)

Good times to all and hopefully the OP found some use in here.
